Default Best food for Robos (UK)

I've wanted a hamster for quite a while, and have been reading this forum for a few months trying to learn all I can beforehand. I had intended to get my first hamster from a breeder, and I had my heart set on either a Syrian or a Chinese. However today while picking up bedding at Pets at Home I saw a Robo in the Adoption Centre, and knew he was The One. I went home to think it over, and now I'm planning to go back tomorrow to hopefully adopt him. I just hope he's still available!

I have a tank ready and lots of toys, I only really need to buy food and a wheel. What's the best food for a Robo? I have looked at a few different ones but they all have very large pieces for a tiny hamster. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I look forward to hopefully sharing pictures of a new hamster tomorrow!

And will a 6 inch wheel be ok for a Robo?

Dčja vu! That's exactly how i got my Robo Gordon.

Rodipet UK online does the only good Robo food. Unfortunately, there really is nothing in the shops. I have looked everywhere but saying that, my Robo was in Pets@Home for seven months, was fed their own make muesli and seems to have managed fine, well, he had to.
You can feed your hamster what he's used to while you source something more suitable. That's what i did.
He does like the Rodipet food which is made up from small grains etc.

He had the 6.5in Kaytee Silent Spinner which was fine size wise but he kept falling off so i got him a wider wheel which works far better for him. It happens to be a 7in wheel.

A 6in wheel is fine for a Robo but don't get the Savic Rolly because they squeak. A wooden wheel you would need to plastikote first because dwarves pee in their wheels. I prefer a plastic wheel for hygienic reasons even though i like the natural look for the rest of the set up.

Can't wait to see a photo of your Robo. He'll be there and waiting for you.

Would any of the foods linked above be ok? The Mr Johnson Supreme has 18% protein, 4.5% fibre and 5.5% fat.

The Bunny Dwarf HamsterDream has 15.5% protein, 7% fibre and 6.5% fat. The Bunny Dwarf HamsterDream looks like it has quite small seeds, which is good. Is 15.5% protein enough or would I need to supplement?

The Versele-Laga has 18% protein, fibre 8%, 9% fat.

I got to Pets at Home early this morning and picked the Robo up. They called it Thunder in the Adoption Centre so I assumed that it was a boy, but they said it's actually a girl. I'll try to post a picture later but I'm letting her settle in for now.

I've ordered the Bunny Dwarf HamsterDream and I'm going to supplement it with more mealworms. I calculated that 500g of Bunny + 50g of mealworms has 18% protein. Is this enough for a 12 week old Robo? It also brings the fat up to 8%, is this too high? The food should arrive in a couple of days, for now she's on gerbil food with additional mealworms.

She has a 7 inch Wodent Wheel, one of the enclosed ones.

Oh how lovely! You got your hamster! You can always rename her if you like. I renamed one of my adopted ones slightly but kept the name of the adopted Robo.

Yes, leave her to settle for a few days. Plenty of time for photos.

I didn't know about the foods you linked so thank you for info. I'll look them up too.

I've just looked at the 500g Rodipet tub which states 16.9% protein and 10.1% fat to compare because i don't know about hamster mix ratios. Yours will be fine.

Lucky hamster to have a 7in Wodent Wheel. Sounds perfect to me. I think they're no longer available.

I'm still thinking about names. I have a few ideas but I want to get to know her a bit more.

Actually I don't think the wheel is a Wodent Wheel, it's a Trixie wheel I got recently from Zooplus. It looks similar to a Wodent Wheel.

I’ve got a few of those wheels which I do use with my Robos although they seem to prefer the Flying Saucers.

They don’t always stay silent forever but the noise isn’t too intrusive and they’re cheap enough to replace if need be.

She is so cute and looks so happy to have found a good home! Lovely little hamster but doesn't look like a Thunder.

Makes sense to get to know her a bit before you name her.
