Serendipity, thanks for the reminder about the "walk into something and lift them out" method. I didn't need it with the previous dwarf hamsters because they would crawl into my hands and settle in to eat or let me move them from one place to the other, but Finnegan is too fast and tiny.

Finnegan has settled in nicely and will eat from my hands which is cute. He's so tiny that when one of his paws rests against my hand I can't feel it. Plus, I never know what house he's in inside his cage because there's no weight so I'm only tossing out soiled bedding when he's out and I can see him. Once in a while, I think he's under the biggest mound he has created for himself, but then his little head pops up somewhere else.

Lovely that he eats from your hand They are so funny when their heads pop up in different places. The mound is probably the main nest, but they do seem to dive under the substrate and stay in different places sometimes. I expect the hoard is under the mound nest. Although having said that, I spot cleaned our robo's cage quite thoroughly recently and found hoards everywhere!
