Annnd here it is! His new IKEA billy cage! All in all it cost me about £40, much cheaper than any other bar-less cages I could find! And it’s been a few days and he hasn’t managed to escape here’s a picture of when it was just finished (before I added a small light and his bottle), and him enjoying some cucumber in it today!

That is a great cage for him! I’m sure he’ll be very happy in there. Just a point about the fluffy kapok though. General consensus is that it isn’t safe. Same problem as any other fluffy bedding even though it’s natural. It would be much better to just give him a big pile of plain white toilet paper torn into strips And take out the kapok.

The new set up looks great!! He looks like’s having a lot of fun! I love all his colourful new toys!!

I agree with serendipity about the fluffy bedding though, its really easy for him to get his lttle feet caught up or possibly get a blockage if he decided to try eating some of it (hamsters have even gotten it caught arpund their teeth pouching it). Also it looks like his wheel might need upgrading a size soon, but its hard for me to tell from the image tbh (my vision is terrible haha), do you know the measurements?

Hi guys! I actually gave him some tissue the other day and noticed he’s ignored the kapok since, so I was considering removing it anyway and just using tissue! I hadn’t realised it was unsafe as again the girl in the pet shop told me it was fine - I’m beginning to think she may have been a bit clueless as she was also the one telling me he wouldn’t escape through bars
With regards to the wheel I’m not sure of the measurements, although I was considering getting a new one anyway as I want to go for a more “natural” theme in this cage and not have all the bright colours, more “wooden” instead. What size is recommended?

Yes I agree that wheel is too small, it’s the small silent spinner, 4.5 inches or something. I’d get an 8 inch one if you can, the karlie wonderland or trixie ones are wooden.

Pet shop staff are like that. When I bought my Syrian I also picked up the Spelos entry XL since it was on sale to use ad a hospital/retirement cage for my oldest hammie. The pet shop lady began to tell me all about how the Spelox Entry XL would be such a wonderful cage for a Syrian!! :0

17-20cm would be a good size for a robo. Mine has the 17cm Silent Spinner.

I love love love natural set ups!! Zooplus has lots of wooden hamster toys for super cheap!

Thanks! He does seem to love this one but I know they’re meant to be able to have a fully straight back so I knew it was a bit small, I’m just using it until I can get a new free standing one! Thanks for the recommendations!

There’s no way that would be big enough, even a novice like me knows that!
Thanks I’ll have a look at that one!
Do you know anywhere else that does them cheap? Zooplus is great but delivery to NI is £7.99! It’s pretty steep!
