Oh gosh I'm in love with Chocho's beautiful little face, the whole thread is stunning mangoandmimi, the pictures, her set up, her and your previous hams and Boppit look adorable too. I've had fun reading through your thread

I like your idea for the Christmas cards featuring Chocho too, I might do something like that too next year (already bought my cards this year lol)

Thank you all so much for the lovely messages, I’ve been telling cho cho how pretty she is too.

In an attempt to get her less territorial in the cage, I’ve been feeding her mix out of my palm every evening for weeks now when she comes out for a quick drink, then scatter feeding a bit too. I have to say it definitely works and it does get them used to hands. But as a result she’s started getting up about 7pm and expecting her dinner, then pouches the lot and then naps for another 3 hours or so. And when she wakes up later I think she forgets she’s already had her dinner and gets quite restless because there’s no more food out! Might just have to feed her half the amount twice now as I suspect her hoard is growing, I can’t resist feeding her extra as she looks so expectant!

She’s doing great though, really not had time to get the camera out unfortunately. I decided to start uploading her photos to my hamster Instagram. Nothing new on there yet but the idea is to keep up with it!

lol! she's on to a winner there getting two dinners
She sounds a bit like Míri, I've started putting food out a little less at a time as she'll collect it all up & take it back to bed too!
Great that she's getting more comfortable with your hand in the cage though.

Aww Chocho getting 2 dinners lol! She probably knows that the amount she gets first time is nowhere near what she's used to, so having a nap and then looking for more is so clever.

Thank you cypher & TL.
The cold weather has entirely thrown off her schedule now, and her diet too seemingly. I've never seen her leave 2 mealworms in my life, nor has she ever left green beans and brussel sprouts. Very strange but she's completely normal otherwise, I can only assume it's weather related as it suddenly got freezing the other day. Had to entirely insulate the cage the last couple of nights with fleece & blankets as it was like an ice block down there, the heater did absolutely nothing!

In other news I'd run out of normal soil to grow sprouts in for Chocho and wasn't going to be able to go out and get more any time soon, so they've been growing in megazorb. Not sure whether or not I'm surprised they're actually growing to be honest, they do seem to grow in any conditions and anywhere! Suppose it's now a question of whether or not they grow strong.

The other thing is she's moved detolf - lol. On closer inspection one of the glass sides has actually bent more than we even realised, it defies all science I know but either way it's been deemed unsafe. Must've been the glass that bent not the bars from the previous bar bending incident. Well we thought it was going to crack or something horrible so ended up emergency evacuating her, in the middle of the day too which she was not remotely happy about. Anyway she's in the spare detolf now. Bit of a task moving everything over but she didn't seem to notice all that much really.

These photos are from the last couple of days after that ordeal was over with.

I know that in the past, I've had a couple of hamsters who loved mealworms and then went off them. Try giving her different veg for a while. Master Harvey loved sprouts but went off them, I then melted some grated cheese and placed it on the sprout and that worked.
Sorry you had to move Chocho again due to a bent glass side, thank goodness you spotted it.
I love these pics of her, especially her expressions eating rice & chicken. Gorgeous!
