Hi Dreamtree!

They're both doing well, doing their little own thing They're warming up to my partner more than me as he tends to be in the office a bit more when they're up and about.

I'm just curious if you could give a little insight on Flora's behaviour with a wheel? Every wheel he's had he's always blocked it off so it won't spin at all. We can pop it in an area where there's no bedding and he will pull all his bedding over and his chews and block the back up. There's never a stash under it but it seems a bit weird that he's blocking off his main exercise?

Have you got enough height in the cage to put the wheel on a shelf? If you could do that he might put all his chews & things under the shelf rather than behind the wheel, I think they often feel behind the wheel is a safe place so maybe try to provide an alternative.

Oh I never thought of it that way! I guess it's the most squished in part of the cage if you look at it. There's definitely enough height that he can have a shelf and I have a couple of spare bridges that neither ham has used yet. I'm heading off later to an area near IKEA and I heard you can use knuff organisers as a shelving option?

I guess the other option is to hunt down a crap tonne of lollipop sticks as I got non-toxic hot glue and have a small DIY after my work day.

I agree with Cypher concerning the blocking up of the wheel. Yes, many HC members use knuff shelves, and they turn out extremely lovely. You can also use popsicle sticks, too.

The knuff does make a good shelf, you can also just use a piece of wood & glue on dowels for legs.

Hey y'all! I thought it'd be best to update some of the stuff that's going on with the hammies, and also us as a household. Unfortunately we're going to start looking for homes for Mallow and Flora this week

They've been a joy, (especially Mallow with his mountain!) but we're having to emigrate in October/November and we can't afford to have the hamsters brought over to Sweden with us. We were quoted over £2000 to have our bare essentials moved with us (which is also out of price range so we're selling everything), and we've opted to drive to Sweden otherwise we'd have to put our cats in Cargo. We thought about taking them with us but I don't think it's fair for us to put them through several weeks of constant stress, over 20 hours of driving plus we wouldn't be able to bring their cages.

It really sucks since we were expecting to be here in the UK until at least the end of their lifespan and we've invested over £500 in making sure they have a happy life. If we knew things were going to go this way, we wouldn't have really put them through this. My main concerns are that if we put them up for adoption people are going to go for them for the cages and dump them off. I'm also concerned that Flora is going to be harder to home as he has the least attractive cage, plus he's a very typically skittish Robo and a trash pig (seriously, his cage was refreshed and cleaned 4 days ago and he's already redecorated.).

I really don't know how to go about this... I would like to re-coop some costs as obviously who ever ends up with them is going to be set for years to come and many friends with these cages. But if I ask a fee then I might not have them properly re-homed within the time frame we have.

Wow, I'm so sorry that you are having to emigrate so unexpectedly and suddenly and can't bring your precious hams or any of your belongings with you! That is terribly upsetting and heartbreaking. I will be praying that you at least get a decent price for all of your belongings and you find wonderful homes for both of your darling hams. They are both so charming and lovable; they deserve the very best possible, but I definitely understand that it will be impossible to take them with you considering that far of a trip. Hopefully, the new owners of Mallow and Flora will be thoughtful and considerate enough to insist on paying for the amazing homes and supplies that you are giving with each ham even though you aren't requesting any money for them. Hugs and best of luck to you, your partner, your cats, and your hams! I hope that you enjoy living in Sweden and have a wonderful life there. Please give us updates if possible. Take care!!!

Oh no! How hard for you. Someone is going to be very lucky indeed. Lovely hamsters and wonderful set ups. Shame I am no longer in Wales.

I have always wanted a white robo and I love agouti ones.

Thank you Dreamtree <3 I'm sure things will work out, I think we might end up getting another hamster in future but it's probably going to be a few years from now, and probably only the one that time around. I didn't actually realise how much personality they could have in such tiny bodies, I can see why people are hooked on them!

We also have some good news for Mallow!

Me and Flowerfairy have been talking and me and Mallow are going to take a long drive up soon, and I'm delighted that he's going to be kept in the community ! And to boot, I know he's going to be taken care of. I've been getting pretty worried as we've had quite a few people who have been after Mallow's cage. And also a few unethical breeders, who want to make a quick buck on him being white :/

Wow, that is such excellent news! It is so wonderful that Flowerfairy has decided to give your precious Mallow his loving, forever home with her. Although I'm sure that you and Mallow will miss one another very much, you can now be relieved to know that his life will be wonderful. I'm certain that little Mallow will be thoroughly spoiled, loved, and cared for with Flowerfairy adopting the cutie pie. It will also be great that you and all of us will be able to have constant updates from Flowerfairy on HC. I am so happy for all of you. Take care, Velle; please keep us updated on how you are doing if you have the chance. I wish you the best as always.
