Robo hamsters and levels?
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out regarding having multiple Robo hamsters with levels in the cage. I am due to pick up 4 boys from a rescue centre next week that are all living together, although I am excited , I'm also concerned about them becoming territorial. I experienced this once with two Campbells Russian hamsters during my childhood that had to be separated.
I would really like to do my best to avoid the 4 hamsters from becoming territorial, then fighting and being separated if possible. Therefore, I have been doing further research into certain factors that can increase the likelihood of them becoming territorial.
One of the factors that was briefly mentioned was having levels in the cage, but I can’t find much information regarding this, thus I was wondering if anyone had experienced this or has any information regarding it?
The cage I have has been approved by the rescue centre but has levels which is why I’m concerned; the cage is the Wooden Small Pet Rodent Villa Hamster Cage.

Re: Robo hamsters and levels?
I got my first 2 robos 2 years ago. I got 2 from a pet sop thinking they would be ok in the cage I was in. They had 1 extra level and within 2 weeks Rosie was bullying Daisy. I removed the levels only to find that she carried on. I had to split them up in the end and get 2 cages. I wouldn't have levels again if I had more than 1 together because of this. Hope this helps and good luck with you little rescue hamsters..

Re: Robo hamsters and levels?
Levels aren't usually recommended with pairs or groups, they create areas that one or more hams can become territorial over & this increases the risk of falling out & fighting.
ETA I forgot to say that the height of the levels in those cages can be a problem too as it's quite a long drop, especially from the higher level to the one below which couldn't really be softened with deep substrate like the lower level (if I'm looking at the right cage!) so there is a potential for falls, this would be even more of a risk with a group as any ham being bullied by another may have trouble getting away without falling.
