Re: Nugget's thread
Thank you TL Nugget was out late last night making quite a bit of noise. He was chewing on a piece of wood. So he is carrying on doing normal hamstery things. He seems just the same as ever apart from balance a bit when walking on uneven substrate and climbing onto things that catch his lumps. I do think the Metacam is helping.
The dog food/Baytril plate had been tossed around again last night! I put it out at lunch time - it's all gone by teatime and I then put out the babyfood/Metacam along with his other food. But by 8pm the dog food littledish has been knocked over/tossed around so I think he is saying "give me more!" He licks the plate clean at various times.

Re: Nugget's thread
Aw bless him enjoying his meaty treats! Good to hear the metacam is helping & he's still hamstering around well enough.

Re: Nugget's thread
Thank you Cypher. I assume the Metacam is helping but really he is no different to how he was before he went to the vets! He was fine then and it was stress seemed to set him back. Although hopefully the Metacam is relieving any discomfort from the lumps if they were causing it.

Re: Nugget's thread
Nosh nosh nosh. Two nice clean plates this morning. So yesterday's gourmet (as in tiny portions gourmet!) dinner was - beefy bits for starters, followed by grandpa's sunday lunch for mains and strawberry and banana baby food for dessert. All noshed and plate licked clean.
The Baytril was in the beef starter (last dose), the probiotic in the savoury baby food and the Metacam in the fruit baby food.
There may be a bit of a fuss tonight though as the Baytril has finished so no more beefy dog food, and the probiotic is on alternate nights at the moment (I forked out for the Benebac), so just the Metacam in baby food. So I may wean him off the dog food a bit slower and put a bit out anyway tonight!
Then tomorrow when he has the probiotic he can just have the two baby foods with probiotic and baby food.
The fruity strawberry and banana one is very popular - it's the only baby food our local store had - cow and gate in a pouch and the only fruit one I've seen that doesn't have lemon juice in (it has a bit of vitamin c in as a stabiliser/preservative), and it squirts out of the pouch easily but only lasts 24 hours in the fridge (so two doses).

Re: Nugget's thread
No wonder Nugget is licking up his meds and probiotics- all mixed into a 3 course gourmet dinner. You certainly found the right way to give the meds to a robo. No stress at all for Nugget and it all goes down. A little beefy treat every other night, alternating with the probiotics, might be a good idea to keep him happy with you!

Re: Nugget's thread
Yes - thanks to Vectis as I had been really worried about getting the Bayril down him. He seems well in himself so I think the lumps are tumours. Maybe benign as he seems so well generally, but benign ones can turn cancerous. I'm not going to go for surgery with the lumps as it is such a large area of his little body. So will just keep giving the Metacam to relieve any pain or discomfort - which does seem to be helping. His main issue is walking properly due to the lumps making him have difficulty with balance.
I could to have a good look at his underside again at some point though. But next thing is a bit of a cage clean or partial clean - so will have to pick a good moment as he isn't going to like it.

Re: Nugget's thread
I gave Nugget a bit of Newt's birthday cake last night - put it out with his food - he got quite excited about it and it's gone now.
Nugget has been going up onto his shelf a lot recently - I am not sure what that is about. There is nothing on the shelf except the piece of hemp mat as I moved his sand bath and food bowl to floor level quite a while ago. And was intending to remove the shelf as he isn't that steady walking/balance wise. There are quite a few poops on the shelf though so maybe he's decided it is a place to poop.
I still want to remove the shelf but I am not sure he will like that now! He is having normal behaviour and I think the Metacam helps but he does still walk as if he is "guarding" his stomach - with his back legs tucked under a bit more. And the lumps do seem to stop him walking straight on the substrate. He moves around quickly still but overbalances a bit sometimes.

Re: Nugget's thread
Did you discuss lowering his metacam dose with the vet who prescribed it?... If my memory isnt failing me; he was originally prescribed 0.03ml, was it? that was then lowered to 0.01ml. 0.03ml is still a safe dosage to give him (as far as I can tell, obviously discuss with a vet before hand), and i'm wondering if the vet now intentionally meant to prescribe that dose; given that he still seems uncomfortable now. Regardless; if he's still uncomfortable, it wouldn't hurt discussing it with a vet - just to see if they could give him a little more, to see if that helps at all.

Re: Nugget's thread
Yes I wondered about that. He seems very well and active in himself though and doesn't seem in pain - hard to tell if it is just the practical issue of the lumps getting in the way.
After the vet made a mistake with the syringe markings and the dose was worked out via his weight by another vet and elsewhere at 0.01ml I decided to play on the safe side with that.
He is probably getting more like 0.02ml anyway is it's such a tiny amount to measure so I just put one full drop in (which seems to be slightly over 0.01ml!)

Re: Nugget's thread
I'm glad to hear he seems to be doing alright, it can be a bit hard to tell whether or not they're feeling ok when lumps are involved especially when they're affecting their mobility. They can get a bit upset if shelves are removed as they do act as extra shelter too - it would be nice to keep it in if you can but I suppose you'd need a fence/barrier to help prevent falls and maybe lower it a bit for better access.
