Thanks Simon and Syril. He just runs away and hides There were a few toys for him to sit in and he did run over my hand once. I tried tempting him with some food on my hand but food doesn't tempt him. So still not actually handled him yet - he's too fast. It doesn't help he hasn't been handled since I got him - but I think he had a lot of anti hand attitude when I got him. I do feel mean that his tunnels have been destroyed. He does seem to have settled now - not sure where!
It will have been a bit stressful for him but I'm sure getting busy making new tunnels will take his mind off that!
I hope he gets more used to your hand soon, it can take a lot of time & patience I know but it will be very rewarding when he does gain more confidence.

Thanks Cypher. That is part of the problem - I haven't had the time. He has been awake all afternoon and lots of strange loud noises. We couldn't work out where he was or what he was doing and then he emerged from the egg box. I think he was scratching inside it so maybe he's decided to nest there. After all his whole world collapsed today so he's probably wondering where is the best place to nest.
Poor little Nugget- what a description...his whole world collapsed today. But that is how it must appear from his point of view. Still he can get busy again. Did you solve the mystery of the source of the smell? Maybe he pees a little all over the place.
Handsome fellow though.
Thanks Coco. Yes I think he just pees all over the place And it gradually built up. I removed all the top substrate and it stopped being whiffy so I left the rest in. So it still smelled familiar but it's a slight change with the heights being a bit different as I decided to leave a bit less substrate in for now. He had a major explore and was running round a lot, but did settle.
I've missed Nugget, that pic in his play pen made me go Aww several times, he's so very addictive to look at and he oozes so much gorgeousness.

Thank you Thin Lizzy. I think he had a good check out of where everything is once back in the cage and has now gone back to his normal routine. Although he has found the gap under the wheel now the substrate is a little bit lower so has another new hidey place. He was out and about last night and running on his wheel. Still a bit skittish though and ran and hid when I opened the top door to put his food out. Whereas usually he would sit under his tunnel and stare at me I'm sure he'll settle again soon. I think I need to get him out more regularly so he gets used to it.
Here's Nugget checking out his cage and digging after his minor clean out last week. You can almost see him thinking a couple of times. He has now moved his nest under the shelf under the wheel. Unfortunately his tunnel system under the platform collapsed when I spot cleaned. He was a bit skitty for a while but has settled down again now and is less jumpy. Maybe time for a handling/taming session soon.
Shame about his tunnels collapsing, do you have room for any more substrate in there, it's hard to see how deep it is but if you can make it a bit deeper & pack it down just a bit then the tunnels might hold better.

Thank you Cypher - yes he is cute. I could put more in but decided to leave it that way for now while starting to handle/tame him. Sadly it was necessary to do a fair bit of spot cleaning as it got very stinky. He still digs the odd tunnel The shelf under the wheel was out of sight when I had more substrate in and he's discovered it now and seems to like it. It's a tricky one - I like the idea of him having lots of substrate and digging tunnels, but there was no way I was ever going to find him to tame him like that plus too much rummaging to get him out is stressful as well. I'll probably add more at a later stage when he's got used to me.
