Re: Nugget's thread
It looks like Nugget is loving his wheel and was thoroughly enjoying himself despite doing loop the loops and flipping out. Such a sweet video.

Re: Nugget's thread
Haha, it looks like Nugget is quite the stunt artist doing the loop the loops and flipping out act. He is certainly quite the character and a silly hammy, too!!!

Re: Nugget's thread
Lol. Yes he was funny. Just after the video he flipped right out and hit the egg box and wood chew and scared himself and shot under his tunnel so fast I didn't see where he'd gone. I was a bit worried for a moment that he'd hurt himself but he was all perky sitting under the shelf and then went back on the wheel again. Think I'll move the wood chew log thing though. A bit harder than an egg box.
I did wonder if a smaller wheel might have been better - but I believe they flip out of those too and can go even faster. I noticed the design of that wheel has a slightly protruding wood circle in the middle that he caught himself on once after getting right to the top and dropping, so wondering if I should do something about that.

Re: Nugget's thread
I don't think a smaller wheel would be any better tbh, they do still flip out in a smaller one, I've found with my Russian hams that have done that they tend to get the hang of things after a while & just stop doing it so it may just be a matter of time.
Not sure you can do anything about the wooden circle in the middle really.

Re: Nugget's thread
Nugget is just like my robo and new Russian dwarfwith the wheel flipping. Willow used to flip out to, but has learnt to control the speed better now. Nugget will get the hang of it soon.

Re: Nugget's thread
Thanks Cypher - I'll just make sure he only has soft things nearby. A wheel without that wood circle might have been better. I suppose it's just the same as a spindle in a wodent wheel if they land on that.

Re: Nugget's thread
Nugget had his first clean out today. Not exactly a clean out, but a bit of a substrate clean as the tank was starting to smell like wet nappies. Not quite sure where he pees.
I had to take just about everything out of the tank to then tempt him into a mug and pop him in a RUB bin with some toys. He has grown a bit I think as slightly bigger than my thumb now and filled out a bit.
He is now back in his cage and I think a bit stressed as he is rushing around all over the place and seems to be trying to escape by climbing his chew stick to the top so will have to use the peg to make sure the Kerry lid is closed properly! I haven't put any new substrate in, just took some old out so there's a bit less now and everything is slightly lower but in the same place.
Here he is in the playbin.

Re: Nugget's thread
He is adorable. I have to clean Murphy’s cage. He was peeing in one of his cardboard tubes. It was getting smelly, so I had to remove it. He wasn’t impressed. Hope Nugget settles back down soon.
Did he enjoy the play bin ?
