Re: Nugget's thread
Nugget popped out this morning Mid morning. He was having a look round the cage and stopped for a chat. He seemed quite interested in the mushroom house and I'm wondering if he is still deciding where to nest. As he was out and about I thought I'd put a treat on my hand and lower the palm of my hand in to see if he'd approach it. Unfortunately the noise of the top door opening frightened him and he shot off down his tunnel. He did venture to the edge of it again but then diseappeared under the substrate
I need to see if I can do something with the catches on the top door. One opens easily and quietly. The other is stiff so it makes a bit of noise.
In the mornings his bit of veg is smaller He seems to nibble round the edges and leave the centre bit.

Re: Nugget's thread
Hopefully, you will be able to fix that noisy top door. I know it must have made your heart sink. It does sound like Nugget is settling in well, though. I think it's cute that he enjoys eating around the edges and leaves the center of the veggies.

Re: Nugget's thread
Well done little Nugget
Sounds as though he's beginning to get a little braver & more curious now.
The top of the Kerry is very noisy, both opening the door & sliding the top off, when I had Tinwë in mine for a while I just gave up on it & made a mesh lid I could just lift off.

Re: Nugget's thread
Lovely to have Nugget out and about and ready to say hello.
Are both catches needed to be tight closed? Can he reach them? Is it possible just to rely on the quiet one?

Re: Nugget's thread
How lovely it must have been to see nugget, even if it was briefly. I hope he continues to get braver/ more adventurous.

Re: Nugget's thread
Thanks CMB and Coco
We saw him again later About tea-time - he was sitting in his food bowl snacking or pouching. He looks so sweet and has quite a lot of white colouring Even OH thought he was cute as well and waved and said hello to him. So he must be cute.
He was on pets at home nuggets when I got him so I've gradually been inroducing the Bunny Dream Dwarf hamster expert. Mixing a bit in with the nuggets. But he ignores the nuggets and eats the new food. So mixing in is not quite as I'd hoped. Anyway he seems fine and likes the food.
It is very nice having two hamsters - double the joy and activities

I think he has chosen that cork log as his entrance to his "house" which is the space under the shelf.
I didn't see him last night but today the veg has gone and the treats in the wheel and I think he's used the wheel and the sandbath - the bit of paper gone from the top of the wheel and a bit of food in the sandbath.
It's hard leaving them alone for a few days to settle in!

You say "Hello" several times, "Oh there you are" and "It's all a bit exciting isn't it?"
I found myself saying Hello back lol!
I'm sure also he responded to your voice.
