Re: Nugget's thread
Thank TL and Pixie. Yes TL- it was like waiting 10 years for Christmas then Christmas only lasting a few minutes, then Christmas going on strike indefinitely! I don’t think Nugget will ever be happily handleable and he hates being got out of his cage.

Re: Nugget's thread
Nugget's Baytril and Metacam going well - one week down, one to go (of the Baytril). He loves the Beef Country Hunter dog food and licks the plate clean - in fact he has started pushing the empty plate around - knocking it over - as if to say - more please. I was a bit late putting it out yesterday and the plate had been pushed around as if to say - where's my beef!
Only seen Nugget once though - he is still hiding away a bit. He came out and had a run on his saucer on Saturday and looks just the same. Still normal and active and still appears to have lumps underneath - but he seems fine in himself.
He also polishes off the bit of jelly with Metacam in each night.

Re: Nugget's thread
That is a really good reaction to the treat that mixes in the baytril. Since the taste of the baytril is really off putting to most hammies, it is good to know how to administer it when using a syringe is impossible.

Re: Nugget's thread
Just saw Nugget tonight - first time since Saturday - and he is looking really quite ropey - very haggard and gaunt looking and one of his eyes looks sticky. He also seemed to have a sort of black dot on his head between his eyes - although could have been something stuck to his fur. He is still as active as usual but he looks pretty ropey.
I am wondering whether to stop the antibiotics after 10 days. Vet said at least 2 weeks but that seems a lot.

Re: Nugget's thread
If he's looking worse rather than better after a week on the antibiotics I would be inclined to either just stop or speak to your vet about it, I've had ham get worse on antibiotics given when the diagnosis wasn't clear so maybe something to consider.
Have a think about giving the probiotic too.

Re: Nugget's thread
I was just catching up on your sweet Nugget's news. I'm terribly sorry that he has lumps. I will be keeping your little darling in my thoughts and praying that he has a complete and speedy recovery. Hopefully, the meds will be able to do the trick. I agree that if he seems to continue to worsen, it would be good to check with your vet to see if you need to stop with the antibiotic regiment. Best of luck to you and your precious fluff. Cuddles to him and huge hugs to you.

Re: Nugget's thread
Vet just said give the antibiotics for at least two weeks - and no need to come back if things improved. However I believe her view was that if things didn't improve there was nothing more to be done and I have a large bottle of Metacam. So I may stop the antibiotics and start the probiotics. Nugget has had the antibiotics for over a week now and most people have a week's course usually unless it is a definitely diagnosed infection, which it isn't. I'll see if I can get sight of his underside and if the lumps haven't improved at all then the antibiotics probably aren't necesary, but will continue with the Metacam.

Re: Nugget's thread
It's difficult - because my gut feeling is just to leave them alone and not mess with them while they're happy and active - which he was - although I do think he was in pain - and I am not keen on giving antibiotics without a clear diagnosis, but this seems to be the protocol with robos with a lump - if antibiotics work it was an infection and if they don't it's a tumour. As a way of diagnosing the cause. At least he is enjoying meaty dog food and now some baby food (for the Metacam - can't be bothered to make more jelly it was a fiddle!).
