Re: Nugget's thread
Well done Nugget on keeping your mum happy with using your potty and keeping it tidy. Deep down you hope she'll keep out of your house and leave you in peace lol!

Re: Nugget's thread
Awww, I have a little Russian called Nugget. I was actually thinking of getting that same tank you have, is it worth it? You've set it up so nicely!

Re: Nugget's thread
Hi. He isn’t in the Kerry tank now . He’a in an 80 x 50 Savic cage. The tank was big enough but I coukdn’t get on with it. And there is just a bit more useable space in the 80 x 5O cage and I prefer front access (he does too).
My cage is the 7mm bar spacing one but if it’s for a Russian dwarf the hamster heaven with the 1cm bar spacing is fine and it’s quite a bit cheaper than the savic mickey 2xl which I have.
I think the hamster heaven might be a better buy (without the tubes and penthouse and with just the solid shelf). Unless you particularly like glass tanks. I kept wishing the Kerry was bigger/longer - not just for Nugget but for ease of access from the top.
Zooplus sell the HH cheaper than most places.

Re: Nugget's thread
I have a hamster haven cage for my 2 newest hamsters
It's huge, (I still feel that any cage I get is going to be too small for my little ones, I'd give them a whole room if I could) and Melkor and Bean love it. Bean has a habbit of running up and down the ladder (had to put in 2, he couldn't get up when it was just one long steel ramp, so i made a second lower platform, and added a second ramp!) So I'd call that a happy hamster. I want to get my girls the same cage, even my syrian would be happy in it, but I'd maybe get him the version with the tubes and platforms.

Re: Nugget's thread
I have the hamster heaven for my hybrid dwarf hamster, Popcorn. It is great. Easy access and a nice deep base.
I dont use the plastic tunnels or shelves.

Re: Nugget's thread
When you say the version with the tubes and platforms (ie the Hamster Heaven) and mention the metal ladder - do you mean you have the Savic Mickey 2XL for the dwarf hammies (like the hamster heaven but narrow bar spacing)? Just asking because the metal shelf and ladder in that is bad for their feet with the rungs. I binned mine. Or you could cover the shelf with cardboard or a hemp mat (not sure you could do that for the ladder. Runged metal can cause a painful condition called bumblefoot - just to make you aware. Maybe you have different platforms and ladders now though. Personally I would get rid of the metal one and metal ladder and use something else - bendy bridges can do as ramps instead of ladders too.
I have a bendy bridge that screws to the bars and use that as a ramp. Also the large cork logs next to a shelf make a kind of ramp and a tunnel as well.
Agree that the Hamster Heaven is better without the tubes and penthouse The tubes and penthouse don't work well at all for Syrians and there's only really room for one of the shelves when you have a syrian sized wheel to fit in as well. So the empty cage is better! On the other hand the hamster heaven at Zooplus is way cheaper than the Savic Mickey 2XL on Amazon so the plastic stuff and tubes etc are free basically!

Re: Nugget's thread
Oh dear. There I was so pleased that Nugget was using his potty - and since I emptied it he has abandoned the house and nesting under his wheel. May try and tempt him back in there with some treats. He is definitely a "leave me alone" hamster!

Re: Nugget's thread
A leave my house alone ham maybe!
Zeki used to be a bit like that, if I cleaned his house he'd sleep somewhere else for a day or two & when I cleaned his pee area he'd pick another one, fortunately he only had three or four & would kind of do a circuit!
I'm sure Nugget will get over it & go back to his lovely house before too long.

Re: Nugget's thread
Aww dear Nugget
I always worry that if I clean their toilet when they first start using it they will stop so I always leave a little bit pee in there until I can be sure they've got in to a routine with it lol.
