Re: Nugget's thread
Aww little Nugget running to hide, I'm sure he'll get over the interruption just like he has before.
He'll be glad when you go on holiday lol!

Re: Nugget's thread
I think Nugget moved out of the house after his scare as his old burrow was back in use with tunnel holes being blocked off. But now he is back in the house again So maybe the burrow is his safety contingency bunker In case the roof ever comes off the house again. Must resist doing that. The idea of a lift off roof is good and I thought it may help with finding him for taming - but more important that he actually enjoys the house probably.

Re: Nugget's thread
I'm glad that Nugget has returned to his house once again. I had to laugh that he has a safety contingency bunker though.

Re: Nugget's thread
I wonder. If you could lift the roof and give Nugget a treat. Then close the roof again. You could whistle or make a certain noise before lifting the house roof. This noise would let Nugget know the roof was going to be lifted and a treat was coming.

Re: Nugget's thread
Good to hear little Nugget hasn't completely abandoned his house & feels safe in there again.
It is tempting to have a peek under the roof & see what's going on! When I first get mine & are getting them used to things I always just lift the top up a little & drop a treat in so they begin to get the idea that it's no so scary really!

Re: Nugget's thread
That’s a good ideA CMB and Cypher. Although Nugget tends to run away from treats .He is scared of his own shadow One of these days I’ll do some handling out of the cage so he gets used to my hands.

Re: Nugget's thread
Poor little Nugget being scared of his shadow; bless this little cutie pie. Yes, I think CMB and Cypher's suggestion will definitely help with his fear of having the roof of his house lifted. It will also do wonders if you were able to handle him outside of his cage more, too. It will help him gain confidence in being interacted with and will be a wonderful bonding time for the two of you as well. I hope that the handling goes well and you both have plenty of fun times together.

Re: Nugget's thread
I did laugh at Nugget moving out then moving back in. The decisions a hammy has to make lol!

Re: Nugget's thread
It was Nugget's first birthday last week! He was born on 15th August I knew it was around now but only just realised. We were away on holiday last week. On my return he actually ate a piece of cheese from my fingers - with my hand in the cage (although he was hidden behind his cheese cube and only his nose and teeth ventured over the top) - then yanked it off me and ran away. Encouraged by this I lifted the lid of his house slightly to put a small teaspoon of scrambled egg under next day. This didn't go down well and he shot out of the top entrance hole and legged it across the other side of the cage. And has not been seen since!
So have decided to leave him in his house and not lift the top again. Anyway at least he had a piece of cheese for his belated birthday and seemed to like seeing me when we returned

Re: Nugget's thread
Belated Hammy Birthday Nugget
Bless him welcoming you home like that with the cheese!
It's a shame he didn't appreciate the treat being dropped into his house but I'm sure he'll continue to get braver still.
