Thank you Cypher. He is adorable and I think he looks more grown up than he did a few months ago now. He'll be a year old in about 3 weeks time. The house is much smaller than Newt's although identical layout.

God, he's so blooming Adorable, I really want to hamnap him. I had a big grin on my face at 'Inspector Nugget:' checking out his cage.
That last pic is heart melting. I'm so glad he got some extra treats for the disruption.

Thank you TL. Yes I saw a different side to his personality. Normally he will sit and listen if you talk to him through the cage and doesn't run away if I open the cage door but anything entering the cage - a carrot or a hand and he runs and hides. He really doesn't like hands.

On this occasion it was hide and seek - he would run and hide then come out again and just avoid the ball, cup or hand! So I gave up trying to tempt him out.

However once I started doing something at one end of his cage and putting the house in he behaved more like a Syrian and was carefully guarding and checking what was going on and following my hand a bit! So territorial instinct overcame fear instinct (although he still kept well back and only really explored when my hand had gone).

Also communication was similar to a Syrian - I had to move the cheese cube slightly to allow space in front of the house door. Nugget gave me a look - squeezed between the cheese cube and they hay house entrance, went into the hay house, then came out of the door again - gave me a long look and then showed me what a tight angle it was to now get in and out of the hay house because the cheese cube had moved! Point taken. I need to move the cheese cube. He seems to spend a lot of time inside the submerged hay house scratching the hay off.

The original idea of the house was that if he moved in I may find it easier to know where he is and get him out for some taming. But not sure it will help Also my life has been so busy this last year the time and concentration for regular taming hasn't been there. He is a look and talk but don't touch hamster as a result.

Aww, little Nugget. Like the others I loved it all but having a think about it all is the best!
My daughter's robo Loki was a look not handle hamster when visiting here. But there was much to watch and she got used to the timing of her treats and food and would come straight out for them. Daughter could handle her, pick her up from inside the cage keeping her covered up until in the playpen. But that took ages to achieve as she was about 9 months old when rehomed there. I could watch for ages, fascinated by the doings of such a tiny thing!

I so love hide and seek. Well with Master Harvey it's Hide, Seek and Peek lol!
It does sound like Nugget is getting more braver. I'm sure he's having fun scratching away at his hay house.

Thanks TL - he does seem to spend a fair bit of time scratching inside it! No doubt taking the bits of hay to his nest (wherever that is). Yes it is a bit hide, seek and peek - but more like, hide seek and then yah boo sucks! He hides, comes out and stands and looks at me as if to say - ha ha! Then if I move he hides again quickly. Silly thing is I am sure he would really enjoy some out of cage time - he just doesn't know it's coming! I shall tell him next time. I just don't want to chase him around with my hand and stress him and he is now wise to the mug and the ball and doesn't go in them.

Nugget has moved into the labyrinth house Haven't seen much of him the last couple of nights. I lifted the roof of the house slightly just to see if he was inside (thinking he was still in his burrow near the wheel) and saw his bum sticking up in the air in the little back compartment - I think he dived in there head first when I opened the roof. So I put it back again quick - don't want to scare him into abandoning it!

Anyway he seems to like it. I think hamsters do like them because they're dark inside and mimic a burrow with rooms.

And you thought he wouldn't like it! Nugget knows that whenever you spend a while on his cage he knows curiosity will get the better of him. Of course he's going to check it out, hoping he'll find some hidden treats.
