Default Robo smell?!

Why is it that Robos smell a lot more than the other species...

I have a Rescue Robo who was given to me because his first owners didn't want him after 2 days and his next didn't have room. He came on Fitch and I thought that was the issue, changed his substrate to Aspen, nope, still smells.

His toys are clean and not a hint of pee on them, they get cleaned every 1 week and 4 days, just like my other hams toys, the cage is cleaned every 4 weeks (alexander). The smell is kinda like a male mouse smell.

I know Robos rarely get Diabetes but I've tested him with the Diastix and he's absolutely fine.

His cage smells worse than my Diabetic Hams and I just dunno what's causing it. I've had Robos previously and their cages all smelt like this.

I read something somewhere which said that because a Robo is a desert hamster, their kidneys are very efficient at preserving water and so their urine is more concentrated.

I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate but could explain why they may have a certain smell to them.
