Thank you. I am tempted with them but am hanging fire a bit now because of this other litter that the owners are having some problems with.

Ah, yes, I think I read about that. It's tough, I tell you.

How do you mean Hekomi? You mean tough if they accidentally breed? I do feel sorry for them. They just bought Robos from a pet shop, had a litter, then another litter ....They had them advertised for sale, but I think until they've got them all fully sexed and separated people won't know what they are buying. I would want to know what I was taking on. To my mind any of their Robos could actually be pregnant - except possibly the boy - if he has been sexed correctly. I haven't seen them so I wouldn't know.

The Robos (Mother and daughter) in the rescue are from a similar situation - two litters from the same parents so they ended up in the rescue.

Oh, no, tough with all the oopsies and rescues and oh my goodness. We sometimes gets ads around us about people who have a pair that is missexed and it goes out of control. It's so distressing.

Then we get the ones that are purposefully breeding and have terrible conditions and clearly don't know what they're doing.

Luckily it doesn't happen too often, though I've learned that sometimes it's best not to personally get involved. :/ I work with a rescue in Toronto and I've assisted in a few large hamster intakes... it's insane.

Thank you - yes I know what you mean - I don't want to get too personally involved - but they seem keen to get it right, although seem reluctant to want to separate the girls - which might have to happen now they've taken one out and put her back again a week later. I'm staying a bit detached. I'll help if I can to help ensure there are no nasty attacks etc, by suggesting they separate the girl or all the girls if there's the slightest chance of fighting now. They could end up with five cages with a Robo in each and then further litters. I hope they've caught them in time not to have any further litters.

So I'll see how things go but I can't promise to take any of theirs on right now because of the uncertainty of the situation.

Just go with your heart, I totally understand why you're staying detached from it. I would feel a bit reluctant because you might get one that's pregnant. I can't believe they took one out and put her back in a week later, It's not good to separate then unite them.
I know you'll make the right decision.

I've had some clarity on the Mother and daughter robos at the rescue. There were 3 - the mother and two daughters. One daughter was removed due to fighting. The remaining daughter is 8 weeks old. A pair has a better chance than a three but I'm still hanging on a bit to think because after travel and a change of cage and previous fighting they may not settle well.

That's a smart move, thinking it through first, but I think that mother daughter pairs get along fairly well. Why don't the owners separate all the hamsters completely? Perhaps I'm missing something, but is there a particular reason they didn't go out and get several small bins to keep the babies in? Especially since they're not totally sure of the sex, and this would guarantee no pregnancies. I know it might be more expensive up front, but I personally think it's more pricey and time consuming to deal with hamsters reproducing exponentially!

I think they just are inexperienced Drago. They bought some Robos and ended up with two litters. Maybe they think as long as boys and girls are separate it's ok. I sent them a message yesterday suggesting they might want to separate the girl they put back with the girls and how to make a temporary bin. I said if they fell out now they may have to separate all the girls so might be best to separate the one now. They haven't replied to me for two days - I am probably annoying them! I was quite friendly and polite in the message and said I was trying to help avoid fall outs with the robos and further pregnancies. I also asked if they had told the pet shop about the "mistake" and that maybe the pet shop should be helping them out a bit.

Anyway I have passed on as much info as I can and not heard anything back.

The Mother daughter pair are at a rescue quite a distance from me. They do travel to re-home hamsters apparently. I am more and more starting to think about a single robo now though. Original idea had been two boys. Found two boys - then one turned out to be a girl!

As to the owners of the litter - I think you're right Drago - they should separate them all and sell them individually. I don't think they should sell them yet though, until they know if any of the girls are pregnant. They seemed quite keen to want to keep the group of girls together. Which is nice but that has changed since they added the boy/girl. I don't know the current situation though but as they haven't responded I'm guessing it's not going anywhere.

That's too bad that they are not letting you help them. Sorry to hear. You could get one robo, one Russian & one Syrian sounds like a good plan to me lol
