Hamster Heaven
Hello,
I have bought my Hamster an Alexander cage from Zooplus, and I was wondering if her old Hamster Heaven would be suitable for a Robo Hamster. I have known friends who have kept robos in them with no problem, but I have read that the 0.9cm bar spacing could be big enough for them to squeeze through.
Does anyone have any experience of keeping Robos in a Hamster Heaven? At the moment she is in a Ferplast Favola joined to a Savic Spelos, but would like for her to have the extra space if it was suitable.
I just don't want her to escape or hurt herself!

Re: Hamster Heaven
I think the Hamster Heaven bar spacing will be ok for a robo. You may need to have a few extra hides, tubes (flat on the floor) etc in the cage as some hamsters may be scared by having too much open space.
Robo hamsters can have trouble climbing, especially vertically. So the tubes and pent house may not be used and the ladders to get onto the levels could be a bit tricky to use. Possible made easier by having deeper substrate to make them less steep.

Re: Hamster Heaven
I personally would feel a bit anxious about the bar spacing but I know dwarf hammy owners generally say it's ok

Re: Hamster Heaven
I'm pretty sure I can remember someone on here saying they have kept robos in the HH, not having had a robo myself I'm not sure, I only know it's been fine for me with Chinese & Russian hams, both bigger than robos but Chinese are quite slim, it depends a bit on the size of your robo too as like all hams they vary in size.
The bar spacing is a little larger than some dwarf cages, apart from the worry of escapes you have to think about whether she could possibly squeeze her head into the gap & hurt herself.

Re: Hamster Heaven
Thanks for the replies. I'm still not sure as I think I would always worry! I think I'll try and sell it and get an Alaska or something like that.
Appreciate the help though!

Re: Hamster Heaven
The Alaska has 1cm bar spacing too A duna multy or maxi duna multy might be good. If you want a barred cage, there aren't many with narrow bar spacing. The Barney and Alexander have 7mm (mostly - except for the odd corner). The Savic Mickey 2XL is the same as the Hamster Heaven but with 7mm bar spacing (except for two bars where the door curves!) but that's expensive to buy.

Re: Hamster Heaven
I have a really nice dwarf hamster cage if you are anywhere near Hampshire. It is from amazon de and I am not using it anymore. I would very happily swap it for a hamster heaven.
Is is like a barney only shorter. Cant find the link to it on there atm.

Re: Hamster Heaven
Thanks Serendipty7000 I used to have a Mickey 2XL but I gave it to a friend... generous to a fault! Ha ha. I think I meant the Barney!
That's a nice offer Flowerfairy, but I'm way up North unfortunately!
Amelia seems quite happy in the two cage set up for now, but I will get her a permanent home when she gets a bit older.

Re: Hamster Heaven
I have the top of a Savic Mickey 2XL but am loth to part with it unfortunately. I mightbe interested in buying the Hamster Heaven though! As the base of the Savic Mickey is broken! Which would go towards something else maybe? (Not sure how far up north you are but I'm near Darlington). The cage Flower Fairy has is this one - the Elmo from Amazon.de. It's basically either a much lower 100cm Barney cage, or the equivalent of a maxi duna multy with bars - in terms of dimensions. I haven't seen it in the flesh myself but always thought it would make a good dwarf hammy cage and isn't a bad price - works out about £52 including postage I think.

Or a detolf?

Re: Hamster Heaven
A Detolf would be a great and versatile option! It could be used for almost all hamsters, but for most Syrians it would be better if expanded into a double Detolf. However, you'd most likely end up getting years of use out of it before that so it could be the perfect investment. As long as you keep the glass shelves you could divide it back into a pair of single Detolf units at another point though, but if you would prefer a tank style cage which can be expanded the Detolf is definitely going to be the best option.
