Hi Estelle.

I have had my robos since September. All four lived happily together until recently. Myself and my Fiance discussed quite seriously that we were going to leave them together and if they breed we will let them do it once and them seperate them so it doesn't happen again.

I have read up on info on how to look after baby hams should this happen and the shop we got them from has already said that they will take them from us. Its a really good pet shop we got them from, they know their hamster stuff unlike some of them and look after the pets in the shop extrememly well.

If we do ever end up with babies, I will probably keep one or 2 myself and the rest will be rehomed or go to the shop.

Estelle, have you seperated all your robos now as you will end up with more and more if you do not remove the male the second you realise the female is pregnant.

Alas, Cherub wasn't having any of it when we spent a week trying to get Star to live with her so they now have a ferplast duna tank each. Please see my new topic for the full story but it was Cherub that started on Star after 24 hours of living happily.

Unfortunately there were no signs of the hamster being pregnant. I thought they were both males. The first I knew was when I saw her carrying one of the babies around so she is probably already pregnant with another lot as they mate immediately afterwards.

I found this out the last time. I spotted babies in with the two hamsters that I had bought as males. She had 6 babies. I removed the male as soon as I saw the babies. 3 weeks later she had 6 more.

I could sell these hamsters to any pet shops where I live. I wanted to re home them myself so they didn't go to young children or unsuitable homes. Pet shops will sell to anyone. I think I'd rather take them to a re homing centre than a pet shop as at least they ask questions about how they will be looked after.

Hi Estelle.

I wasn't being funny with you just didn't really understand what you had done with yours at first.

The only reason I would give any babies to the pet shop I got mine from is because I know them and they are very very good (which is a rare find for a pet shop I know) Thankfully, they are of a rareity in that they give good advice to customers before they sell a pet and ensure that they recommend the best sort of pet where young children are concerned.

If I didn't know how a pet shop works I wouldn't give any babies to them willy nilly for precisely that reason.

Good luck with your brood. I'm a total sucker for pets and would probably end up keeping them all myself if it was me.

I think there are 5 babies so that makes it a total of 17 now! You're lucky to have a good pet shop nearby. The ones near me will just sell any animal without asking questions first.

I would like to keep them but they take alot of cleaning out and my spare room is now full of plastic boxes! I also have a cat and 4 rabbits to look after.

I have got adverts in two local pet supply shops that don't sell animals so hoping I can rehome some before the babies need separating. Christmas isn't a good time to be selling pets though and i worry about them being bought as gifts.

My fiances parents have also offered to take one so a least that is one less to worry about!

I live in Leicestershire. I have a friend who works in Corby who could probably get them from me, if you could get to Corby.

I'm in northampton which isn't too far from corby.

Chris won't let me have any more (I wish he would) but I will speak to the pet shop and see if they will take some for you.

I will let you know. I am going there tomorrow to get another new tank as my robos are all solitary now as of 1.30am this morning.

Is is 17 that you need to rehome? or do you have 17 including your original robos

Thanks for offer but i don't want to send them down to Northampton to go to a pet shop. I know you said they are good but I'd be too worried about what had happened to them. I'd rather know where they are going to end up. They older ones are 7 months old now so wouldn't have thought a pet shop would want them. If i still have them all in a month I will think about taking the babies to a nice pet shop locally and try to stop worrying about where they'll end up!

I don't mind keeping 6 but 17 is rather alot, especially if the one that had babies is pregnant again

I really really wish that Chris would let me have some more hamsters but he won't. I have 2 syrians aswell you see. There is no talking him round at all (I have tried believe me) If we had a bigger house it would be no problem.

Good luck and if you change your mind let me know and I will see if they will take some for you. I will keep my ears open around the people I know to see if any are talking about owning hamsters and if so I will speak to them too.

Just a thought, have you contacted a rescue, they may be able to help you out and they vet people before they allow anyone to adopt.
