new to roborovskis hamsters
hello , recently a few days ago I brought home a small roborovskis hamster I believe . She is fully white other then a black dot on her forehead anyways id like extra tips to keep her happy since she is the first drawf hamster we have had in the house hold ever though we have owned other hamsters before and have two other hamsters as it is being my younger siblings pets anyways id enjoy some tips and pointers along with that I will be posting photos of her soon hopefully as well as her tank right now . I have her set in a twenty gallon tank which she seems happier in it then in hamster cage I previously had her in for a short time till I got her main cage which is the tank.

Re: new to roborovskis hamsters
My robo looooooves her hamster ball even more than her hamster wheel! So I suggest getting any dwarf hamster one. Its a great way to interact with your new hamster! My robo has me trained lol, she runs from side to side in her tank so we know what she wants lol. as soon as she is in it she's gone lol!

Re: new to roborovskis hamsters
Congrats on your first robo
Personally I don't like to see balls used for any dwarf hamster as they can be dangerous & many can be scared by them, most dwarfs are easy to please with things like toilet/kitchen roll tubes (you can make quite a lot of toys out of those!) & egg boxes, all my dwarfs love an egg box to hide or forage in.
Little things like small terracotta flower pots to dig around in are great too.

I've gotten her a ball , she walks right into it when I place it by her then waits for the lid to go on . for the time being I just let her run around my room after a bit I take her out and interact with her on my bed or in a box , ive successfully gotten a few apple bits eaten from my hand after she runs on her wheel . ill have photos up soon ^.^
I am waiting to also get some paper rolls but at the moment I'm in the middle of cleaning some habittrails - what ever its called brad- tubes to make some mazes but since we have some larger hamsters my father and I will be making some mazes out of wood later on during the summer when we can get into his work shop.

Re: new to roborovskis hamsters
I miss my robos. They are such great little characters. I personally found that my last robo Hector preferred a smaller tank and didn't like an open space - I think because he was a pet shop adoption and had got used to a smaller enclosure but they're all different so be guided by them.
Hector loved a whimzee to chew on and an occasional dog biscuit such as a milk bone or biscrok original. He also loved tubes to climb through and his sand bath (I use chinchilla sand) so that's always a good addition.
I personally wouldn't uses a ball with a Robo. They have such little legs that there is the a slight risk of their leg getting stuck in a vent but the main thing that worries me I'd they are so quick that there is potential for them to get hurt (and escape if the ball opens) if they run full speed into a wall. Instead I used to set up a storage tub as a play area with lots of boxes and a spare are wheel/saucer. He liked that and it was somewhere for him to play while I cleaned him. Food packaging boxes are a great as they often have cutouts in them which make great hideouts and playgrounds!
Looking forward to seeing him when you have photos

she loves the gaint tank , runs about and goes in and out of the tubs , ive gotten a few squeaks from her when I was feeding her apple bits . we will be picking up some chinchilla sand soon as it is . she is supervised in her ball 100% I never leave the rodents alone in their balls even the rabbit sometimes. But I do have a tub to the side when I try getting her use to me .
she enjoys her ball though we do supervised time in it for very short times , even with my rabbit we keep good eyes on him . we have the smallest hamster ball for her I think its 5.5" in size and ive checked to see if her toes and that go through which they don't ,I wouldn't ever put her in a larger ball ever unless its a we need to go now and you have nothing else to use kind of thing.
I have a tub set ot the side for cleaning as well as to get to know her as her to is

Re: new to roborovskis hamsters
I think I have gain some ground with little robo I have , she is now looking up when I come in with a treat such as a cheerio or a wheat chrisp what ever cereal or a small piece of apple and doesn't run off when I hold it down for her , I feel rather proud about this though the diffuclity is like taming the crested geckos I have.
