I know it can be frustrating trying to do a really nice set up in a small tank but I wouldn't be in any hurry to upgrade him, let him settle for a while & see how confident he gets as some robos can be quite nervous with larger spaces.

I also can't get over how adorable his whiskers are in that video of him in his food dish, are especially noticeable for me. Looks like he is going to live in luxury

Gonna have to keep my eyes open for a good sale on a larger aquarium, but for now, I'll just have to make do I suppose.
I know the struggle very well, I have Chinese who don't seem to be happy or able to settle in anything too big and as a consequence, have to put a lot of thought into what are the best items to put in for their personalities. As long as Ronan seems happy for now then I wouldn't worry too much about rushing to upgrade him and certainly whilst taming, a smaller space can make things a little bit easier.

Ronan is adorable BTW.

Heart melting pics and those whiskers are amazing, looking at them makes me tickly lol!
Thank you! They're just as tickly as they appear to be, btw

It's not unusual for them to get a little nippy when getting used to hands, I'm sure he'll get over that soon enough.
Very cute photos, you did well to get shots of a super speedy little robo!
I'm just glad he hasn't broken skin yet lol. That said, with his personality, I really don't see taming being all that hard in the long run. And thanks for the compliment. He's crazy fast, and especially since all I have to take pics with is my phone, for every 1 picture I post I delete about 50 lol.

Another option is a lot more difficult and doesn't always end well.It involves physically removing a glass panel on the side of each tank and you'd have to have several tanks, but for 20 more dollars during the dollar per gallon sale at Petco you could get a second 20 gallon tank and then you'd have twice the floor space. You could do the same thing with any size tank, however that would also mean you'd have to get more of them if you wanted to expand them.
If I do decide to upgrade him, I'll wait for the next dollar per gallon sale and get a 40 gallon breeder. For now I'm just gonna do my best with what I have.

Thanks for the advice! I probably will just try and get a little more creative with his current space, rather than trying to upgrade.

Glad someone understands what I'm going through lol. It's just that I have all these ideas for set ups and themes and what-have-you and it's just a little frustrating trying to imagine them in that little space. But I'll just have to see what I can do lol. And thank you!

Now some shots from tonight, in a separate post because it said I was trying to put too many images in with the smilies and such.

Yogurt drops are a big hit!

Followed by a quick bath behind his wheel for (perceived) privacy.

Keep in mind you might have to pay up to 80 dollars to upgrade to a 40 gallon tank,if you have to buy a lid for it.It isn't always just the aquarium you have to buy,so in most cases even with the sale it isn't necessarily cheap housing in the end. That isn't even including if you have to purchase something to use as a stand, which means it may even go over 100 dollars so at that point you're not really saving much money if any compared to a DIY.

Ronan is gorgeous. I upgraded one of my robos (Flower) to a 100 x 50cm cage (from amazon de). She hardly ever came out and so after a couple of weeks she went back into her grosvenor large rat and hamster cage (78 x 48cm) and immediately came out more and has been on her wheel loads.

Fairy (Flower's sister) is in the alaska (80 x 50) and seems really contented.

I love looking at cage set ups. Lots of hideys seem to be the main thing. See joy gorgina on youtube for great robo care.

Little Pet Warehouse as far as I remember does international delivery and carries a good range of cages for some hamsters(not all hamsters though,as some need bigger cages).

Hopping Hammy has a video of her brother and father removing a glass panels to make a bigger cage & she highly did not recommend it as it is very difficult to do this.

When I upgraded my robo to a bigger cage she hid for about 3-4 weeks before acting like her normal self again.

I wouldn't expect a hamster to always be completely normal right away if put in a larger cage.It would be a new environment so obviously they'd need time to settle in,which can take anywhere from a few days to a month.
