Re: October Baby, Angelica
I talked to the vet yesterday & she said that Ariana will probably develop ringworm which is contagious to humans. She said if I have a good immune system I should be fine. That alone is a reason not to keep her. I think she said that it could also be cotagious to my other hamsters. I'm glad that I took her to the vet I feel bad if her new owners don't know this problem she has?

It shouldn't cause any problems if you take appropriate quarantine steps. That being said,if you can't keep the hamsters in separate rooms it will not work well.Quarantine applies to all new hamsters though, not just ill ones.

Re: October Baby, Angelica
It wouldn't be fun to catch ring worm. She has the signs of developing sores in the future. That would be a mess! Poor baby, all that inbreeding of Russians is heart breaking, that's why I'm sticking with other species from now on.

Don't beat yourself up, you did the right thing in taking her to the vet and I'd have thought (and would hope) that any potential new owners will be made aware of her health issues when they adopt her.
The vet will be able to treat her accordingly now that they know what they might be dealing with.

Re: October Baby, Angelica
Fluffagrams, the vet can only tell by the fur make-up, but until there are sore they can't treat. When they did the mite test, they also found hair that tells whats down the road for Ariana. I don't want to take the chance of ring worm in here. That would be worse than mites to me, especially if I got it. But I understand what your saying. Unfortunately I doubt the new owners will know upon purchase. Unless they bring her to the vet which most people probably don't. Then they would have to get a vet who knows what they are doing as well. I got the best vet in the area to see Ariana. The pet store I bought her from uses that vet as well. So the vet already knows what to do when the pet store brings her in. Whatever that is, I have to wait a few days to find out. I am in contact with the pet store because I want to know what happens to her.
But back onto Angelica, I moved her to the living room with the other hamsters, so I can sleep well tonight. She is on a desk on the opposite side of the room, far away from the others. That's a good thing with her being new, although the agency didn't see a need for the vet. She looks super healthy to me too.
I just worry a little bit about her parents being probable brother and sister. The pet store told whoever bought them that they were getting 3 females, but one turned out to be a male and surprise litter. I know it's not ideal but I'm not worried about it.

Re: October Baby, Angelica
Oh she's beautiful <3
I caught ringworm from my guinea pigs when I brought them home. Luckily the dog and Jareth escaped it. Big oval itchy red patch on my face for ages. Lovely eh!

Re: October Baby, Angelica
Ringworm is actually a fungus not a worm

Re: October Baby, Angelica
I Googled it & you're right it turns out that it's not a worm but a fungus infection, which is highly contagious. Thanks Nancy!

Re: October Baby, Angelica
Is Angel an agouti coloring, she's lighter than the other agouti hamsters I've seen?
I'll call her Angel for short
