Re: long nails?
Oh I think it's the orange bridge with green sides! I have one but I don't think it works that well but is super cute. I still stand by my advice on rough wood and smooth rocks etc though.

Re: long nails?
Yes it is that one, it does seem to be helping a little but i will probably also get some rocks for under her water bottle. There is no way she can go to the vets she's just too nervous
Thank you

Re: long nails?
Sorry guys, reopening this thread... Gordy and Derrick's nails are looking really quite long to me. In your more-expert-than-me opinions, do you agree we're at nail cutting time?
We're going to give it a go this weekend...

Re: long nails?
I would say that if nothing else is working to trim them down, you definitely need to get them cut by a vet or do it yourself if you can! They look extremely long, probably at a point where they could even make walking a bit difficult

Re: long nails?
I hadn't had a chance to check their nails properly until this moment! I've got the baby scissors ready, so will be chopping them down.
If I can't get it done we'll definitely be going to the vet this weekend or early next week. I've read so much about 'hamster nail length' but nowhere seemed to have the pictures of how long is normal and how long is too long. I read that nails are normally 'longer than you'd expect' so I wanted to check I was right in getting worried about the hambabies!
My poor babies

Re: long nails?
I know what you mean about trying to find pictures of what's normal Carla. We took ours to the vet and they said they didn't have anything small enough to cut them with and they didn't look that long anyway! Suggested we use a nail file lol. Hope it goes well and you manage to get them cut without too much stress for you and the boys.

Re: long nails?
Hahaha I'd love to see you trying to file their nails!
We're tackling this first thing on Saturday morning, and we're planning to do 'a substantial trim' if we can. HamsterDad is ready to help luckily as I definitely think this is a 2 parent job if we're to do it ourselves!
All going well I'll post the 'after' photo too so we have a log of what's 'good' and what's 'bad' for nail length for people in the future

Re: long nails?
It is a lot easier with an extra pair of hands!
If your hams get quite stressed by it you can just do one or two at a time & then do the others another day.

Re: long nails?
If you have a bright light behind the nail you can see the blood supply within the claw (looks darker/red/pink). Leave a little gap and then clip the end of the nail.
