Robos are very small and fast! And supposed to be quite entertaining to watch. They don't have a reputation for being the easiest to tame or handle but I'm sure they'd be a lovely addition to your hammily . Just be prepared for needing four cages at some point! If you get another pair that is. At some point, one or both pairs may need to be separated if they fall out and fight. If you're thinking of getting them it's best to get a cage or tank all set up and ready first. Same idea as with the dwarf winter whites - no levels, 2 houses, wheels, water bottles and food bowls - all to avoid territorial behaviour. Sounds like you need two detolfs! One for each pair, then you can divide the detolf if you have to separate them.

I'd love to have a Robo.

Here's a couple of videos that might show you what to expect

You can see how active they are - they need lots of space to run around in, but also lots of hidey places and cover.

Or,you could make a DIY cage system which is pretty much a bookshelf with each level being 25 inches x 31 inches/0.5 square meters/775 square inches and then it would be even more space saving!Or another example is 24.25 x 32,but some kind of 775 square inch cage is best for each hamster.

In terms of pairs,it really isn't necessary and you can avoid a lot of stress and injury and illness by simply keeping hamsters on their own.Hamsters are not like other rodents that crave companionship, and can do extremely well on their own.

Robos in general are very flighty and nervous, but with patience some can be tamed though not all become tame.A lot of nervous behavior can be helped with a large enough cage that has proper cover, though!

If you do get just one hamster per cage, there are other benefits as well such as being able to offer even better enrichment which does play a big role in reducing boredom.

In terms of diet,Higgins Vita Garden is a great food(US and Canada exclusive)as it is one of the only US diets that is free from chemical preservatives(such as BHA/BHT/ethoxyquin which causes cancer)and also has only natural ingredients. With this diet you just need to add extra protein like tofu, freshwater shrimp, chicken, mealworms, etc.Vita Garden is also diabetes friendly,so it can work for all your hamsters!

Wheels are the same as any other hamster, solid running surface and an upright wheel. No mesh, wire,or flying saucer wheels,as these are all inappropriate.Flying saucers can be an add on,but in a small cage they really take up a lot of space and I would suggest getting the largest possible size as the small ones would cause side arching in any hamster where the largest ones would possibly work for very small hams up to 4 inches in length. However, you can save money by only purchasing an upright wheel for each hamster and for robos 6 inches is really the smallest you should go just for comfort reasons.8 inches can work as well!

Cage setup is pretty much the same as any other species, you need a proper upright wheel and bottle and bowl and deep substrate(for robos go with 6 inches or more),as well as the other usual things like places to hide.

For substrate in the US the best options would be Carefresh and Kaytee Clean and Cozy, though Clean and Cozy is generally less dusty and also costs less.Use a scent free substrate, which you should already no.Don't use any form of pine, cedar,or unspecified wood shavings as you likely already know, and also aspen may be considered safe however it is not at all risk free as it often does cause allergic reactions and can be very dusty as well as very uncomfortable and not that great for burrowing as well as cause injury since it is not as soft as a paper substrate and would be quite pokey!

If possible I would suggest getting any hamster from a reputable breeder or local pet store and only use chain stores as a last resort, since these hamsters tend to be less healthy and don't live as long and often do have bad genetics not to mention the mill breeding practices.

Robos do generally tend to be harder to tame than Russians & less interactive but like all species they vary a lot & some do become very tame & easy to handle, they would require a fair bit of patience to get there though & if you had a pair much less likely to want to interact than one living alone.
I would have a good browse through the threads in this section & read other people's experiences & stories about their robos to get a better idea of the kind of pet they make.
As has been said you will need to have four cages if you get another pair, it may seem unlikely when they're being cute & cuddly together but you do need to be prepared as they may well fall out as they mature.
