Possible 'red' nose
Saw Swift this morning, I can't be 100% sure but her nose looks a little darker then normal, can't really call it red, but it looks pinker.
Her eyes are bright and she is her normal self, I might be worrying for nothing as it might of been the light/the way her head was tilted.
In her home I use Fitch and Carefresh for the substrate and she has a 'bath' with what I thought was sand, but I have now been told it's bathing powder.
So I've just gone to Pet planet and ordered some Supreme Science Bathing Sand with the rest of my order and it'll be here tomorrow. As soon as it arrives I will get rid of all the powder and rinse the bath and give her the sand. My thoughts being that I'm hoping that if she does have a 'red' nose I've caught it early enough that getting rid of the powder will be enough and her nose will sort itself out without having to go to the vet, however if she doesn't have a red nose, it's still a good idea as I understand sand is better anyway.
Will doing the change over be good enough do you think? Or should I get her to the vet anyway?
Fingers crossed she is OK!

I'd check with the vet just to be sure, but good you caught it early and decided on quick action. Hope she will be fine !

Re: Possible 'red' nose
When she comes out later I'll try to get a better look, when I saw her earlier the light wasn't as bright so I couldn't be sure. If it does look like a red nose I'll phone the vet for advice.

Re: Possible 'red' nose
Things can look a bit odd in different lights sometimes, it is good that you noticed so quickly but try not to worry until you can have a good look at her, if you're still worried then do phone the vet.
The dust probably hasn't got anything to do with it but won't be good for her lungs so she will be a lot safer with the sand.

If she does have a red nose what could be the cause?
I know hamsters can catch colds from humans, but I haven't had a cold, nor been around anyone with one.
I had heard it could be allergies? However as I use Fitch and carefresh that couldn't cause an issue could it?
As you say I'll try not to worry until I've seen her later and can be sure.

Re: Possible 'red' nose
If I saw a red nose with no other symptoms my first thought would be rubbing against something or chewing bars or something similar.
Colds or allergies usually cause changes in breathing, squeaking, sniffling or even sneezing.

Re: Possible 'red' nose
Thank you cypher.
I'll check her later but I'm feeling fairly confident from reading your post that it was probably just odd lighting, she has no other symptoms and I can't think of anything she could be rubbing against/chewing etc
I'll update when I've seen her.

Re: Possible 'red' nose
Just seen Swift, her nose looks fine thank goodness!
I bought her some millet and monkey nuts yesterday, so she got some millet today, seems to like it.
