Fighting
I've had them for a week and they've settled down. They aren't even afraid of me anymore. They walk up to my hand. But Gertrude started beating up on Brunhilda so I had to separate them.
How long until siblings fall out? It seems like now that they've calmed down and made themselves at home, they suddenly have time to fight.
I'm really bummed. I really wanted two hams that would get along.

Re: Fighting
Some live happily together for a long time, but, once they fight and are separated they can't be put back together again.
What kind of layout did you have?
You'll start to see Brunhilda's confidence grow now she's got her own space.

Re: Fighting
There's no set time before this happens, I think generally once they make themselves at home & begin to mature they want their own space & will begin to fight over both space & things in the cage, as we discussed in your other thread your cage wasn't really ideal for preventing fall outs but the chances are it would have happened anyway.

Re: Fighting
I would rather give them both a rich environment rather than skimp for the sake of keeping them friends. I want them to have everything. I guess if that means they can't be friends...

Re: Fighting
On the other hand, they're both much calmer now. When I put something new in the habitat, they immediately investigate it. They both come right to me when I put my hand in the cages. They were so high strung when I first got them I never thought this day would come. I never had robos before and I assumed that this breed would simply never become tame.
I think part of it is time on the wheel. When they first wake in the evening, they're in the mood to run. After a few hours of wheel running they seem more in the mood to explore, forage, investigate novelty, etc.

I'm sure they'll be very happy separate. Good work separating them quickly

Re: Fighting
Brunhilda is already a lot calmer. Although Gertrude wasn't beating up on her at first, I think she was "lording over" Brunhilda. She will benefit a great deal from having her own cage.

Re: Fighting
Good to hear Brunhilda is calmer and that you've made progress too.
