Smile Meet Mouse/Maus

So I just wanted to post to say I got my robo on Wednesday!
Her name is Mouse/Maus (which is also German for mouse), but I'm still deciding on the spelling. I'm assuming she's now 8weeks & 3days roughly.
I created this thread so I can introduce her and hopefully post some photos a bit later.

I got her from p@h, and luckily they had just brought out 6 new robos from the back of the shop only yesterday because they had turned 8 weeks old. So I was pleased to know I got one of the youngest ones. I was also pleased she had only been out in the shop floor for a couple days during the week, so it was less likely she had been exposed to people banging on the glass or anything that could scare her. The 6 were all agouti and looked so similar, so I chose the one that seemed the least shy. She just carried on eating while the others were all hiding in their log.

When I got her home, she was just exploring the travel cage she was in and seemed so inquisitive. She was just watching me through the gaps and didn't seem that bothered about me being there. After putting her in the larger cage she did retreat into her p@h box. I just left it in there since it was filled with substrate from her cage and would be more familiar.

I'm assuming being alone in a much larger cage has probably stressed her out a little. I have seen her come out to explore while the lights have been dim and she's started burrowing. I also heard her on her wheel last night.

I haven't seen her eat much yet. Is this alright? I realise maybe if she's a little stressed out she may not eat much. She might have had a tiny nibble on the burgess dwarf hamster mix I scattered, as well as the p@h food I put in there. I also heard her nibbling on the boredom breaker little hearts, but not for long. It seems like she's just taken tiny nibbles from the food, including maybe a tiny bit of cucumber, but she hasn't touched the mealworms, or shrimp cookie piece, even though I saw her sniffing them.

When she's settled in a lot more I'll try take some photos of her, but at the moment I'm trying to leave her be, and just checking on her from time to time and changing her food/water.

Oh & lately, thank you to everyone who gave me advice on previous threads I started. I really appreciate all the help,

Congrats! I'm really pleased for you.

I'm sure little Mouse will settle in soon, the first few days can be a bit of an anxious time, it is stressful for them so it's hard not to worry that they are eating, drinking & generally getting on ok but I'm sure she'll be fine, mealworms are probably new & a bit scary until she's brave enough to try one then there may be no stopping her, they only eat a little anyway so as long as she's having a go I doubt you have anything to worry about.

What a new adventure for you and little Maus! She sounds adorable. Patience is the key remember. What size cage/tank are you keeping her in? The Zoozone 1 is ideal for a single robo or anything similarly sized. It`s good that she`s been on the wheel as I doubt she would have seen one before being in the store. The Burgess Dwarf mix is ideal as it has all the small canary millet seeds, which dwarf hamster love. Millet spray sold for caged birds can also be given as a treat. I usually break the little pieces off the longer piece and scatter them about the cage. x

Congrats on your fluff! What a lucky girl she is, getting a forever home with someone who really went out of their way to make sure it would meet her needs and make her happy!
I wouldn't worry about that she is barely eating, it can be difficult to measure and she is probably scared since she is on her own for the very first time (:

I assume the food is a new brand as well and together with her being reaaaally tiny it sounds quite normal. Keep up the tissue trick and good luck with mostly leaving her alone the first week. That is always so difficult! And when it's your first hamster it's almost impossible! I spent hours talking to Kiki when I first got her. I still do lol.

Awww she is here at last! How wonderful for you. Very sensible just getting one as well. My two seem huuge compared to when I first got them (still teeny though).

Mine only seem to eat a very small amount as well. They love broccli and sunflower seeds (not meant to have many of them cos they are fattening).

Look forward to piccies when she has settled in.

Congratulations. As others have said, she is very lucky coming to such a well prepared home. What cage do you have for her?

She's in the IKEA samla bin cage which is about 50x70cm
I do actually have some millet spray and broke a bit off to put in her bowl to see if she would eat it. I am using the p@h good which she was eating before but included some burgers dwarf hamster mix to see what she would eat.

& thanks for all the lovely comments. It's really exciting having a new pet :3

Bin cages are great. You get such a good view of them. My two are in barred cages (having been separated out of their multi duna maxi) and it is nice being able to open the door and chat to Fairy. Flower will be moving into an aquarium which I managed to pick up for £15.00, coming tomorrow, her barred cage has rather wide bars, 1cm which is a bit nerve wracking!

Yeah I really like being able to see through into the cage just so I can check from across the room if she's exploring her new home. So far I haven't seen her today, I've only heard her rummaging in the substrate. I'm sure when I'm sleeping and it's completely dark she'll come out to explore. I'm continuing to do the tissue trick as well. This weekend I won't be at home much so the room will be extra quiet so I'm sure that will give her more opportunity to explore freely. There will be someone at home to check up on her and feed her if I can't
So I'm hoping by early next week she will have settled in a lot more and be comfortable in her new home

It's very early days yet so yep, as everyone else has said, she's still settling in. Plenty of hiding spaces will give her more confidences (loo roll, bendy bridges & houses all provide good cover) but I wouldn't worry she's young & new & finding her feet. Plus they're so small that it doesn't always loom like they're eating much but she'll find it when she needs it
