Oh great. Thanks for replying. I so want to be able to have some interaction with them.

Was it easy to get Hector in to the cup (or whatever you used)? My two literally vanish into their beds as soon as I try to open the cages.

I used to have a robo like that. Luckily Hector is a) fairly curious & b) a sucker for sunflower seeds. I use a jam jar taller than he is & put a couple of sunflower seeds in it. He goes in of his own accord now to get them. By the time I've tipped it right way up he's distracted by the seeds. Maybe you could try putting the jar in with favourite treat in the cage & leave it get them used to it? Mind you, he hates being touched though.
Also, is there any way they can get out if the lid is open? (I forget what they're housed in) If not, I'd suggest opening the roof & leaving it open while you're in the room. they may come back out. The other trick I found quite good with my nervy Syrian, may or may not work with a robo, is to have a treat you can hold that they can nibble the other end. Bit less scary than taking it from the big human hand itself. A strip of pepper, something like that. Worth a shot. You may of course to have stand pretty still with your hand in the cage til they get brave though....

Flower is in a grosvenor rat and hamster cage which has a fully opening top.

Fairy is in the alaska.

Flower has a jam jar in her cage but as soon as she sees me she is off in about a millisecond and in to her bed!

Will try a bigger treat, good plan. Guess I will just have to put hands near them until they get desensitised to them ...

On a brighter note my new chocolate syian, Gopal is letting me stroke him and is happy to take treats from my hand. Got the taming box all ready for when he is brave enough to enter the pringles tube ie his transport to the box!

Good stuff! I think with robos more than any other species you just have to roll with it. There's going to do what they're going to do I've had Hector for 18 months and he still surprises me all the time.

Well the girls still vanish into their beds at any sign of cage door opening. Flower will stay out and about when i talk to her and comes out in the day time at least twice. Fairy will come out once but any sign of me and shes away!

Gopal will allow strokes and we have a lovely time around 11 oclock each night when he comes to check out his food situation. He will take treats from my hand but prefers me to put them near him.

Would it be awful to catch flower and put her in a taming box? It would mean a bit of chasing round the cage but otherwise i am never going to tame her ...

Or could i take out a load of substrate to reduce hiding options and get her used to the hand in her cage?

They are both great to watch but it would so awesomely eoic to have some kind of contact with them.

Opinions welcome.

Here is one of Fairy (blurry again) that shows her fruit box platform nice and clearly. Want to paint it at some point.

Lovely little hammies! It's maybe just a time thing. It isn't that long since they went in their new cages is it? Have you tried either of them in a taming box?

Lovely photos of the girls

I would be inclined to go slow with them still & not do any chasing or removing substrate from the cage which would probably just stress them out & set things back even more.
Could you leave something like a cup in the cage for them to get used to so they'll climb into it then you could scoop them out & try a taming bin.
When you reach the bin stage I would keep it fairly small, put some familiar things in it, a wheel (they like to have a little run if stressed!) some toys & maybe a couple of handfuls of substrate from the cage to make it familiar.

I wont do any chasing or substrate removal then. They both have things in the cage that they can (and do) climb into its just that as soon as I approach the cage they vanish deep into their beds! No hope of scooping them out.

Guess I will keep chatting away and do the tissue trick.

Their taming box is all ready with a silent spinner and some hidey toys.

They have been in these cages for weeks now, since mid December.
