Ah thanks Cypher. Will try the jar thing with Fairy when I next see her! Will also hide more food for Flower.

I gave them most in a bowl at first so I could see which bits of the mix they liked best. They hate the green pellets, dont care about the long hay bits (they have a combination of a few different mixes including science selective and burgess dwarf and others that I have forgotton) they arent keen on the science selective but love all the teeny bits and love millet.

I use Science Selective added in too but I break up the biscuits into smaller pieces for my Russian dwarf as I always find larger biscuits get ignored if they are fed whole. A little `tap` is usually enough to break one heart shaped biscuit into smaller pieces. You will find that dwarf hamsters are millet addicts! x

They all had porridge yesterday morning. Woodstock and Gopal (syrians) ate theirs all up but Flower and Fairy had just nibbled theirs.

F and F are not big eaters (not big at all) haha, but definately love whizzing on their wheels and rolling in their ceramic rabbit food bowls which are now their sand baths.

No daylight sightings again today (well, a 5am chat to Flower but no sight of Fairy).

Taming is going to be very slow. Humph.

Thanks for the biscuit breaking tips racing hamster, will give it a whirl.

Don't give up! When I first started taming my Robos I would just hold a sunflower seed in between my fingers and let them grab it and run away. Then they progressed to taking it from the palm of my hand and now they will sit in my hand and try to climb up my arm even without a treat. Burrito even lets me pick him up and pet him! They will let me do this in their cages now too and not just in a play pen. I also just separated mine and they were grumpy for a couple of days but have since gone back to normal. Be patient and I'm sure they will be just fine

Awww little robos nibbling porridge sounds delightful
If they're ever out & about you could try offering a tiny bit on a spoon, Whisper can't resist that, even when she's not well pleased with me!

I know it can get a little frustrating at times but just persevere & you'll get there with taming, I know I'm repeating myself here but the longer it takes the more rewarding it is in the end!

Same, my robo won't eat the green pellet things. I don't even know what they are.
Mine came out and had a nibble from some broccoli when I held it out to her, rather than a sunflower seed. I'm wondering if this is because the piece was a bit longer and bigger compares to the seed so was more obvious but more because she didn't have to go right up to my fingers to have a nibble? Or maybe she just really loves broccoli :P
I like the idea of offering from a spoon. If I had bars in my cage I would have tried offering food from behind it but mine is a bin cage.

Since today has only been my 2nd attempt at taming I can't really offer any advice, but I thought I'd just mention my experience so far :P but I may just have an extra laid back robo

Good luck with the taming! Hope it goes well

Thank you Mountaingirl. If only I could get my hand into the cage without Fairy turning into a blur! She only comes out in the very dark of night atm.

Flower is happy to be talked to and will stay out for ages. I am hoping to introduce my hand soon.

Like the spoon idea cypher. Will give it a go with both of them (when Fairy appears) I have been known to get up at all hours of the night and put the bathroom light on (near my room but not too dazzling for them) just to get a glimpse of her!

Mause does sound like a laid back girl. Glad she has settled so well with you.

Flower was up and about when I woke at eight this morning. Soo lovely to see her. I sat for ages watching and talking to her and dropping sunflower seeds through the bars. Was going to give her the tank I bought recently but decided that the bars felt more 'connecty' somehow so tank has gone to friends who want fish.

I really love my girls even though we havent quite got to the handling stage YET.

Your morning ham watch with Flower sounds lovely, I feel the same way about bars, it makes general interaction much easier but even more so when they're new & nervous, I'm sure Fairy will catch up in time & get used to you, at least you can enjoy more time with Flower while you wait for her to gain confidence.

Still no luck at all with taming. They both flee from any sign of me or my hand although will happily go about their business whilst I am talking to them.

Would it be unkind to put them into a taming box using a jar or cup or will it just stress them out? I mean one at a time ofcourse as they are now living separately.

I would so love to have hand contact with them ... *sigh*.

It's what I did with Hector. Personally I used a tub that wasn't that big so he didn't have many places to go. I put a handful of bedding in for his scent and his wheel & sand bath so he had his "destressing" devices if he needed them. And when he was in I put my hand as flat as I could with a sunflower seed on my palm. If he nibbled (not biting, he just tries my fingers sometimes) a gentle wiggle discouraged him without scaring him.
