Re: 4 Roborovski's together???
Just wanted to add that not all dwarfs are able to live in pairs or groups, only robos & russians.
Another thing to think about is if your girls & you want a ham each I'm thinking you will all want to be handling your own hams (if you can manage to handle robos!) if this happens the different scents will really confuse them & increase the chances of them falling out when put back in the cage together, they really need to be handled as a group.
Dwarf hams can be very hard for children to handle so, as you may end up with 4 cages anyway if you had to separate a group I wondered if you'd considered keeping syrians (separately)? If you had the space that would probably suit your needs better.
Another thing to bear in mind when buying pets for Christmas is that all hams need at least a few days of quiet time with as little interference (other than feeding & quietly talking to them) as possible while they settle in to their new home & adjust to the big changes in their lives so if the cage/s are in a busy living area it could make that settling in period a little tricky.

Re: 4 Roborovski's together???
How lovely for your children to have a hamster each! I am inclined to agree that it would be better in terms of a pet to cuddle to get syrian hamsters (in separate cages obviously).
Also it is advised not to have trios as they often gang up on the odd one out. Check out erinsanimals on youtube for really wonderful hamster advice.
Could you perhaps give the children cages for Christmas and then all go together to choose the occupants?
Whatever you decide I hope it works out wonderfully well. Please keep us posted.

Re: 4 Roborovski's together???
After a chat with a few breeders i think we have decided to go with a pair or Russian Whites as they have been together since birth and seem to be very happy together at 12 weeks old so hopefully all will be well but time will tell.
Thanks for everyones help and I'm glad we came to a sensible conclusion, this is why i love the forums.
Il update you all soon with my final decision in the right section along with my custom build tank.

Re: 4 Roborovski's together???
I'm late to the party but that sounds like a good decision to me! I wish you all much joy with your new hamsters and look forward to seeing your custom set up. It's lovely you as the parent are getting so involved! I got hamsters as a pet for my daughter but of course I do most of the care although she is very involved and loves spending time with them every day (she's only 3!), she really likes watching our most naughty/nosy ham who will always put on a show with his antics in the cage. Even if your girls don't get to handle them for whatever reason (some hams won't really tame or don't like being handles as much as others) they're still great fun for everyone. My daughter says Glowy is better than TV!!
I think robos would have been the wrong choice for you just because they're so small and as been said like furry soap to hold lol! I wanted to get a winter white as our second ham but ended up with another Syrian as my daughter cried when she saw the baby dwarves as she said they are too small! Our older Syrian is particularly big so I see her point....

Sounds like a much more manageable decision!
Look forward to meeting your hams when they come home & seeing your custom tank too
