Meet Souvarine

Souvarine came to stay on 29th May from P@H adoption centre. My partner, David, saw him there and then took me along to see him. He looked very sorry for himself so brought him home. He's just finished his 2 weeks quarantine in my study and then he will be moving into our bedroom, where Ligeia used to live.

Souvarine looked so dejected in his tiny adoption tank but once we got him home and gave him a wheel to run in he was instantly happier. He was called Roux but it didn't suit him so David renamed him Souvarine after a Russian revolutionary character in Emile Zola's novel Germinal.

Souvaine is a lot calmer than Ligeia. I don't know if that's because he's male. He certainly seems more laid back than she was. He doesn't hurtle round in his wheel or on his flying saucer quite as fast as she did and he isn't too afraid if we put a hand in the tank so hopefully he'll not be quite so scared of us. We never could tame Ligeia but she still enjoyed our company, just as long as we didn't try to touch her.

Thanks everyone. It is really lovely having a robo again. We've got a few things to make for the tank in the bedroom and then he can move in. The tank is at the foot of our bed so it'll be lovely to have hamster TV to watch again.

Just spotted this Fluffydd, so happy for you and for little adoptee Souvarine, he`s a wee cutie! My Chubs (Russian dwarf) came from the PAH adoption area last year and it`s great to give them a second chance and a better life. x

Thanks racinghamster. He's loving having lots space and toys. It took him a while but he's now started running on his flying saucer as well as his wheel. And he's got lots more toys waiting to go into his permanent tank too.
