Default grains of food or grains of sand everywhere?

I've had my roborovski 2 weeks now. I have 2, but they had to be separated.

I keep seeing all this dust or grains on the plastic upper level.

I thought it was sand. But I am sure it's food. Munchkin seems to pouch food and regurgitate (not pop it out of his pouch) and eat tiny bits leaving grains everywhere. Is this normal eating behaviour for a robo? He doesn't seem to eat much at all.

I thought he was leaving traces of sand from his sand bath, but I really doubt it as the sand is not near the upper level.

Feeding hamster muesli.

It's most likely crumbs from the food. Every hamster I know of leaves little crumbs behind from eating.

It could be sand as they have hairy feet it might get trapped & knock off as he's walking but my robo Hector hoovers all the small millet seeds from his food & leaves them lying everywhere. He also pees in his wheel & sometimes on his shelf & it doesn't take an awful lot of sand or shavings to stick to that to look grainy.

I agree, it`s possibly sand grains. They do like to make a mess! But leave things alone as hamsters like to re-arrange their space! x

Probably sand, it does get trapped in their coats & then they trail it everywhere, it could also be the husks from seeds, especially millet which leaves loads of tiny bits all over the place after they've hulled each little tiny piece!
