That's got to be one of the best photos ever! I love it. Hector's face is hilarious.

I know, I just clicked a couple in a row on the "good" camera (aka not my phone lol) to catch him on his wheel. I realised as I was snapping that he'd flipped & when I looked didn't have the action running running shot I'd hoped for the face plant! His little face! He was fine though, he tootled off for some food after that

Hector hasn't had the easiest couple of weeks. He had a bit of trouble adjusting to his new cage & then he developed a cold/respiratory thing. He's never been a vocal hamster but since he recovered, he's started being a squeaky chattery ham when he was out in his playtub. And although he seemed sort of settled in his cage, he became less happy with me having my hand in there. He spent a lot of time peering at me from his house & not coming out. I don't think it helped that because he wasn't coming out when I was about (like he used to) I kept having to lift his house to check on his breathing, while he was under the weather. So after having a good think about it, I decided to put him back in his mini duna. He seemed a lot happier before in there with the full length shelf & the more enclosed space. I was going to do that at some point this week but made time today while I was free. (You'll see why in another thread)
I'm sure he's happier already. I was going to leave him be to give him time to settle as I always do but forgot to put his milk bone in so I did that while he was still exploring & he didn't mind my hand being in there at all. He's currently gone back to his old sleeping place under the shelf.

Just goes to show that no matter what great aspirations we have for our hams they know best!
I'm glad he's better & settling again now.

I know it's still early days but I just went to check on the hamily. I rustled Hector's bedding & he stuck his head straight out, I offered him a sunflower seed & he took it. And then he went off for a tootle round his cage. He came looking for me through the clear plastic & was looking for another sunflower seed. He's still a bit squeaky but he's apart from that behaving how he did when he was in this cage before. He's out & stayed out even with me near. I'm happy I definitely made the right decision.

It is so rewarding if our Roborovskis take food from us. How lovely.
I am really pleased for you, Velma, that you are happy with your decision.

I've got my Hector back He's back to his old self & coming out to investigate when I rustle the bedding. He takes 1 seed from me, eats it somewhere quietly & then comes looking for more & stays out I'm the open. Today I was in the hamster room looking for something, he wasn't up when I went in but a couple of minutes later is I heard a noise & he was up on his shelf looking up for me he's definitely found his voice though! Also, as he's happy to come out, he's getting more or less straight in his jam jar so I can put him in his tub. I've got my friendly little furry goldfish back (I've a feeling things with Cleo, my new Syrian, aren't going to be so straight forward...)

That's really nice Velma. It can be worrying when they change their behavior like that.
