Re: Hector
I've been gradually adding bits & pieces to Hector's cage since I got him & taken out a couple of things that he wasn't fussed by. He seems quite happy with it. He has a little rearrange of things like his loo roll tube to where he prefers it & seems to interact with everything in there. I've also been picking up bits & bobs ready for his bigger cage when it arrives.
Here's his current set up

Re: Hector
Velma, I don't have that carrot but some people have said the green stuff on top is dangerous to hamsters. They recommend removing the green part all together. If it's the same one, I think some hamsters choked on it? I'm not sure.

Oh, crikey. Thank you, I didn't know that. I only just picked them up yesterday so he would have a different texture in there to play with.
I didn't get them from here but it's these
Rosewood Boredom Breaker Mini Sisal Carrots 6 Pack
Can I just cut the top of so it's short as I can get it?

Re: Hector
The original thread was about the Roll n Carrot by Critterware and it looks a bit different than yours.
Maybe it isn't the same?

Thank you
I found a thread for the same product but it was a query about glue. I've started a new thread just to ask.
I love this forum, everyone looks out for hamster welfare & is helpful. It's made being a hamster owner more fulfilling than in my pre-internet days.

Re: Hector
It's definitely been helpful for me. I love Hector's set up, he's a lucky guy. TeeTee wants the same kind of ramp he has. I tried to explain that she already has a ramp but she was like pfft - can't a girl have more than one?

Re: Hector
Poor Hector, I've just ordered him the duna multy so no ramp for him when it arrives....
I had a look at the picture of the roll n carrot & it doesn't look like the sisal on the boredom breaker one in Hector's cage but I might give it a haircut to be on the safe side...

Re: Hector
I’ve enjoyed looking at the photos of Hector. He’s one lucky rescue Roborovski!
Just out of interest, Velma, and I know Hector will be going in a duna multy soon, does your Roborovski run in the mini duna wheel?
I ask because I have quite a few mini dunas and the supplied wheels as pictured in your photo above were awful and wouldn’t turn properly so I had to replace them all.

Re: Hector
He runs in it all the time. It did take him a while to figure it out though. The problem i found when setting up his cage initially was that the wheel is so low down that any substrate under it (apart from a wee sprinkling) was stopping it turning. Luckily i had the cage before i picked up Hector so fiddled with that before he went in. The shelf does boing around when he's running furiously around in his wheel though
I wouldn't say it's the most marvelous wheel in the world or anything like that & it doesn't fit on a wheel stand but so far (apart from a quickly resolved post clean squeaking issue) I've had no trouble.
