Default Robo behaviour

I adopted a little robo today, not sure of age but they don't think she is any more than 4 months old. For the past 45 minutes, she has been running back and forth from one end of the cage to the other ( a zz2 so I'm shattered just watching her!) literally non-stop. I've never had a robo before so am just wondering if this is normal behaviour?

She is still going now - I can see her shadow through the cage base!

Some robos will pace back and forth when they're stressed out. If you've just gotten her, she might not have completely settled in her cage yet, so it's likely that she will stop pacing after a few days. My Smores paced occasionally the first 2 days when she first came home with me, but that behavior disappeared quickly once she stops being nervous and got to know her environment better.

However, persistent pacing (for hours and days) is a neurological problem so keep an eye on her. 45 minutes of continuous pacing does seem like a long time, so when she's resting, see if you can break up the running space like putting furniture or toys in the long paths. If the pacing is neurological, they will run back and forth even in tiny stretch of space. Otherwise, this will help introduce other behaviors such as climbing or investigating new things and hopefully the pacing will stop.

Thank you for that explanation. She was doing it in her cardboard carry box earlier, even though it was open and she could get out, but that was only in short bursts.

I'll keep a close eye on things and hopefully it will ease off in the next few days.

Thanks again

I knew you would .

Wilbur was like this at first when i brought her home from pets at home adoptions. After a day she calmed down. I'm guessing it was because she was so scared and stressed. Hopefully your little one will soon calm down.

id probably suggest making sure she is by herself, no loud noises or anything to stress her and leave her alone for a bit. sure she'll be fine once she destresses and is happy in her lovely new home!

I found my Lukey doing this one night. I did some investigating and found his flying saucer was stuck and needed adjusting. He went right back to running on his flying saucer once I fixed it. He now has a regular wheel and flying saucer in his bin for this reason.

Congratulations JBH on your new robo, they are great little hamsters (if not a bit mad!) I`m wondering if the ZZ2 seems a little overwhelming for her if she was in a pet shop tank? Could the large space be causing her to be a little crazed? I can`t say any of the three robos I`ve had displayed this pacing behaviour, but I have read about them doing it. I`m sure she will settle in soon once she has ran around and gotten used to her layout. x

Good to know that she's settled. Take some pics when you have time!
