Default Cage size for introducing two males

Hi
I posted a while ago saying we were thinking about adopting two single males from the local pets at home adoption bit, well we got them, we've given them a while to settle in and learn we're not as big a threat as they think (they're still nervous but we've seen a few big improvements and are confident we'll get them more tame in time).
They were about six months old when we got them and we want to give introducing them a go. We're aware it might not work and are fine with keeping them separate forever, we just figure its worth giving them a chance at company instead of leaving them alone forever when we could try introductions.
We've let them meet in a playtime and that seemed to go ok, Skip tried to rush over at first but by the end of the playtime Whizz was approaching Skip instead. Didn't see anything at all to worry about.

So now we're planning on trying the split-cage method of introducing them more permanently. I was wondering if a cage measuring approx 40cm by 75cm would be big enough for them?
(Its about 30cm tall, but I'm not sure thats relevant as it won't have levels.)

We'll be using a mesh divider until we're confident they'll be ok alone (and at first they'll just have wheels and bedding), but wanted to make sure the cage was big enough as we can arrange bigger if needed, but would prefer to do so before we start introductions (don't want to upset them by changing their cage after introducing them).

Thanks for any advice

Hiya,

As you say that they get along fine in a playpen i think you should just try putting them together in a completely clean cage. Make sure that none of the toys or wheel have scents on of either one and just try putting them in together - probably best to only put food and water in at first, not even any bedding, just so you can keep a close eye on them, even when they are in bed - they should just hopeully snuggle up in one corner.

For me, the split cage method is the 2nd method i try, as a lot of robos are social and do refer company, so just see how it goes

Obviously you may still need to use the split cage method if they fall out, but just see.
