Handling
I was wondering how easy is to get used to handling a robo? There's one up for adoption locally, he has been for a while, and I would really like him, I have Artie's old mini duna spare now, so I have a house, and I've thought through everything else, but today I went to have a handle of him, he's a lovely little thing - but ofcourse I couldn't cope with his speed and almost dropped him. So now I am torn, would it be the wrong thing to do to have him, or is handling something you get used to over time?
I was thinking that I could take the cage into the bath and then get him out in there with me to get more used to his speed and he couldn't escape?
I'm just not sure what to do, I would dearly love to have him, but would it be the right thing for him?

Re: Handling
Robos are tameable. The bath is the best way to get them used to handle. If you'd love to have him that much then I'd get him.
It takes a while to get used to a robo's speed, I nearly dropped Luppi a few times. It also takes a while for robos to become tame but it's so worth it

Re: Handling
Thank you He seemed to be some what tame to the guy who was handling him he sat quite happily in his hand looking around, just didn't like me taking hold of him and wizzed off.
Just want him to have the best life possible

Re: Handling
I had my robos run into an open running ball and carried them that way. Alternatively, take a toilet paper roll and have one run in, then hold both ends closed and carry.
They can take a very long time to learn to trust you, but I found that the best way is to be consistent and gradually allow for them to understand that they should not be afraid of you. Grabbing them had reverse effects and allowing them to sniff me and come out for treats and giving them space gave positive results.

Re: Handling
In addition to the excellent advice already given (I learned to handle my first robo's in the bath) I wanted to add that confidence is key.
I have noticed that when I let people handle my hams that aren't confident, they do tend to zoom about a bit more. I think they can sense the unease and want to zip off. The guy in the shop has probably handled many robos and is used to their speed and changes of direction so the little one felt more relaxed.
I say get him!!!!!! You'll soon be handling like an expert

Re: Handling
Thank you all so much. I decided to get him - so he's settling into his new home at the moment, can't help having a look as I pass every now and then and he's cleared himself out a corner and is sleeping on the plastic lol, though he has been very intrested in the tissue I put in so hopefully he may make himself something a bit more comfy at some point. He's been running about on his wheel and nibbling on his sticks. Will try and get some pictures once he's more settled in, he's gorgeous.
He was put up for adoption as he was 'too quick' for his previous owners.

Re: Handling
He is thank you, I can't wait to 'show' him off.
The other half who was umming and arring about getting him, as he's not good with speed, he find's Artie a bit quick sometimes so he plays with him in the bath. Has told me that he has decided he is his, as he is so cute.
We decided to keep the name he came with so the new adition is called Robbie!
