Nail trimming toys
Robo nails grow so fast and no matter what I put in their cage it doesn't help wear down those pesky nails! I have stones, wooden toys and karlie wheel and a sand bath
I was going to get a terrecotta dish for the sand but I can only find the smooth plastic ones online, not the rough untreated ones which would actually wear down nails pretty well
Help!

Re: Nail trimming toys
Try a garden centre. I'm sure our local homebase sells them.

Re: Nail trimming toys
Just checked their website, the smallest they have is 19cm which is too big. Ideally looking for 10-13cm
B&Q it is! Thanks

Re: Nail trimming toys
I haven't found anything that wears their nails down yet, mine have had pretty much the same as yours, but no joy, and I trim them myself. They actually only scrabble at anything plastic rather than the things it would be useful for them to scrabble at

Re: Nail trimming toys
Like Poms, I haven't found anything that helps beyond scissors. My girls have a few large porous rocks in their cages, but they do not help at all. The girls would really have to scratch the rocks and run over them a lot to make a difference, which my they don't do.

Re: Nail trimming toys

Re: Nail trimming toys
I'm not sure about the sand paper, I've heard that its abraisive on their paws? I don't mind trimming their nails, it's just they get quite stressed and their fur goes all greasy. Will they get used to it?

Re: Nail trimming toys
I'm not a sand paper fan either to be honest, they have also been known to rip bits off and pouch it which isn't great for them as it can be abrasive there.
Mine don't love nail trimming but any stretch of the imagination, but they are used to it. It's nothing that's not quickly forgotten with a favorite treat straight afterwards

Re: Nail trimming toys
There is if you go too low, so do be careful. If you're starting out and are nervous, cut higher than you would aim to for safety while you build your confidence. I did nic Jam very lightly once very early on, I was mortified, but he didn't seem too worried about it.
You can always to to the vet if you're really not comfortable. I took The Cloud as he would not be held still or scruffed under any circumstances. We went through all three nurses and they couldn't contain him either, so we couldn't go to the drop in service and had to book an actual appointment with the head vet for him .
I did actually clip his nails in the last couple of months of his life, it was kinda sad really as it made me realise he wasn't as strong as he used to be.
