Unhappy Dwarf hamster fighting

First time commenting, only had hammies a few months so any help gratefully appreciated.

Have two dwarf Russians about 2/3 months old. (Was advised by pet shop to buy two so they weren’t lonely, I now know that wasn’t the best advice!) Zan is much bigger than the Gimli and when he goes near Gimli, Gimli squeaks really loudly and runs away. I’m worried that Zan is bullying Gimli.

I’ve spoken to a few people and they’ve suggested maybe it’s time to get another cage and separate them.

Zan seems happy enough but Gimli is much smaller, doesn’t seem to be eating as much and squeaks a lot when Zan goes near him.

Any help or advice would be VERY much appreciated.

Separation is best. It sounds like Gimli is getting bullied. Once living separately they will take a while to settle again. But once settled will be happier.

I agree, it sounds as though Gimli is getting stressed & being kept away from food, with a home of his own he'll be able to grow & thrive as he should & both hams will be happier once they settle again.

Thank you both for your advice. The problem is 90% of the time they’re both fine and seem to be happy. But the 10% of the time where Gimli is squeaking and running away isn’t nice to watch.
Think I will look into another cage.
Thank you again!

I know it may seem strange that there can be bullying one minute then they cosy up together again but I expect it's because Gimli is so submissive there's no actual fighting going on but it's unfair on him to keep them together if he's getting stressed & not getting adequate food.

Yeah sounds like there stressing each other out.
Mine fought but would still cuddle up and sleep together.
However, the fighting got out of hand one day and blood was drawn, so they needed separating. I'd definitely separate before they hurt each other seriously.
