Smile New Hamster

Hello,

I have my very first hamster!

Since getting him home and in his cage at 10am, he has had 2 hours sleep, 11am-1pm. He's very very active but I'm a little concerned as I keep hearing they're nocturnal animals. He's not acting strange, just very very playful! Could it be that he has settled into his new home well and Im being concerned for nothing?!

Thanks,
Emma and Hammy

Hi Congratulations on your new hammy! My new hamster Sapphire wakes up at 2pm when I come home from school lol. Most hamsters are more active at night but its not uncommon for hamsters to be awake during the day. He may be just very excited and enjoying exploring his new home

Congrats on your new ham
Some hams will just hide away for a while when they come to a new home & others will spend a lot of time exploring everything, either way they just need time to settle in so it's nothing to worry about.

Congratulations. It could be that your hamster is busy checking out his new home. You will get to know what is and isn’t normal for your particular hamster.

Hope he settles in well and you can build a trusting relationship with him.

Congrats on getting your new hammy. Each hammy acts differently when they are brought home. Some like to explore for hours and are extremely active where others are the exact opposite and are more timid. In time, you will learn what is the typical behavior for your specific little friend, so I wouldn't worry about his behavior. What is your little one's name, btw?

Congratulations hope he settles in quickly.
I've read online that it's normal behaviour for little hamsters to eat and sleep in a couple of hour cycles. And I've noticed this about mine, they eat, then play and then sleep.

Exciting!

My previous hammy, Crumpet, ran around squeaking for a while when he arrived before settling down and sleeping.
The hammy I just got, Tofu, spent an hour or two running about her cage (especially the tubes ).
A hammy I had about 9 years ago hid in his moving box until the next day.
It all depends on their personality and how brave they're feeling I guess.
