Re: My Valentines present!
She's in good hands, she had an eye infection so the store is taking her to the vets this week. I don't know if she'll be coming home with me yet for sure. It's unlikely but I took her off cause I'm less stressed with her not with me.

Re: My Valentines present!
I should know Tuesday if the store actually takes her in to the vet to get medicine. Hopefully they won't try to treat her themselves & then if she's not better I'd have to take her in. She has a lot of things wrong with her. I have time to see how I feel.

Re: My Valentines present!
Pet store put Ivy back on the floor with crusty eye and all her health problems and someone bought her. That's good that she has a home and I did basically surrender Ivy to the store. So she has a new home now.
However, there is another Ivy that is younger and even cuter than the 1st Ivy. I know I shouldn't get her. It's at a different pet store chain so different vendor. I think I'll just enjoy my current 8 hamsters and wait for some time to pass. Then I can come up with a plan instead of loading up on hamsters with no real focus other than they look cute.
For example I have the worst luck with Russians. They are sooo cute and that's a shame. A lot of my hammies are getting old. 1/2 of my hammies are really old.

Re: My Valentines present!
I'm annoyed that the pet store put Ivy back with an eye infection and giving the responsibility to someone else. They should've treated her. That really peeves me off. All the care about is getting their money's worth.

Re: My Valentines present!
I am so sorry to that you had such a sad experience with Ivy Rose. I know that it must have broken your heart to know that she had so many health problems and that the pet store did not do what was in the best interest for your Ivy Rose. Unfortunately, it seems that there are so many people these days that are just interested in their own profits rather than the interests of the animals they are selling or the their customers. I hope that Ivy Rose will be alright. I know that you did your very best for her.

Re: My Valentines present!
I agree everyone, Ivy Rose wasn't the only sick hammie they were selling, they had a black and white mottled hammie that I'm almost positive had the same diabetic problem as Ivy Rose. She drank for 5 min straight with the water bottle squeezed to she was getting lots of water. They store just doesn't care. That whole chain of pet stores is poor quality animals. Except the store that I bought the Chinese babies at.
I also bought one light grey with red eyes once, I did a thread on her but I also bought her from that pet shore chain and turned out that she had ring worm lying dormant in her skin.
I also bought Chloe from their store 2 1/2 years ago and she has always been in good health.

Re: My Valentines present!
I think any kind of chain pet store and even local pet stores to an extent can be very risky regardless It is unfortunate, but sadly there just isn't the same careful breeding that is necessary for high quality healthy animals from a chain pet store or even quite a few local pet stores(I know I've heard of local pet stores selling puppies from mills and things like that).Even then some hamsters can be from the same sources but still be much healthier,as lots of people have experienced!
There's definitely a lot of variation with individual chain pet stores,so the only thing I can suggest for anyone is to really be aware of the individual animals and if they seem healthy or not and things like that. It's ultimately a personal choice whether you purchase from pet stores or not,but in this case the pet store in question definitely seems like a very bad one
