As long as it has no unsafe preservatives,garlic/onion/leek/etc,doesn't have added sugar, and is either fruit or vegetable flavor or a safe meat(no pork,I don't think fish baby food exists but I'd avoid that too if it does exist).

For the US,Gerber baby puffs are an option but use moderation. For diabetic prone species stay under 5 pieces a week,Syrians could have more. They're extremely low in sugar despite having fruit, considering 6 pieces would have about 1/10th of a gram of sugar(a full 60 piece serving is just 1 gram of sugar, and hamsters obviously wouldn't be getting that many). That is just concerning the organic apple ones though, other flavors and the regular variety might be different so check each flavor for safety.A tip on those is also be careful where you buy them as they can be extremely expensive, but if you can get them at some sort of discount store(Big Lots,if that is in your area, for example)they're extremely cheap and you get a very large amount that would last a long time.

As with anything else you feed your ham check ingredients, if you want to give baby food I would stick to plain veg ones or chicken & veg type things, as well as checking for any added sugars make sure there's no added onion, garlic or spices.

I wouldn't give a hybrid sweet baby puffs tbh, they really don't need things like that & there are plenty of natural, healthy treats they can have.

They're honestly not sweet at all, definitely less sugary than feeding things like freeze dried fruit. It's going to depend on personal opinion, but I personally would feel comfortable feeding at least the organic baby puffs to any hamster species.

There are tons of other treat options though, like flax seed and mealworms.Even then those still need to be fed in moderation,as with any food, since you can have too much of a good thing and end up with way too much fat or an imbalanced diet.

I think they work out something like 20% sugar, hard to find enough info doing a quick search, actually I would say fruit is better with the vitamins, minerals & other micronutrients it provides but even then I wouldn't suggest feeding fruit to a diabetes prone species.

I know that a serving(60 pieces)of the organic apple Gerber baby puffs are 1 gram of sugar.Other varieties could be higher in sugar though, which is definitely important to keep in mind.28 grams of freeze dried strawberry on the other hand from the Target(aka Simply Balanced)freeze dried strawberries gives a massive 14 grams of sugar.Dried fruit is definitely not a good choice for diabetic hamsters and diabetic prone species, but the baby puffs are still far lower.

I think you're comparing treats that are more suitable for syrians really Amity.

Baby food isn't a necessary food/treat. It can help hide medicine if your hamster is ill. Or if they are having trouble eating hard food.

Flax seeds, millet, nuts, vegetables, meal worms and chicken are popular treats.

I usually give mine something like baby food or porridge once every two to three weeks although sometimes I run out of fresh veg & they'll get some baby veg, once I've opened the jar/pouch I freeze it in ice cube trays so it last ages.

All my hybrids love chicken! Franny and Stephy love mealworms too but Marchi doesn't touch them.

Honestly I'd avoid all fruit snacks and stick to chicken, mealworms and fresh veggies (be careful not to feed them higher sugar content veg too often though)
