Talking Meet Percy

First proper thread on the Forum!

I'd just like to introduce Perseus (Percy)!

I've had him almost 2 months now. I'm pretty sure the little guy is a DCRH ( would be amazing if any Hamster Experts could confirm this).

I found the little guy in the Rescue section of my local petstore. I was pretty on the fence about getting him at first as I know not every animal in this section is a 'real' rescue. The store worker said that Percy had in fact been in the same litter as the other Dwarf Hamsters currently up for adoption but his siblings had tried to eat him!( Not an uncommon story I expect). After a few weeks of treatment, the little guy was looking for a new home.

Now he lives with me! His Favourite thing to do is run on his flying saucer or the wheels in his playpen. His favourite food is banana chips or carrot. His favourite toy is his tunnels and during playtime, he likes to climb on and then roll around on his tubes.

I'm midway through taming him after some not so great advice. I'm following the taming steps used in Hoppinghammy and Erinshamsters videos.

Hope you guys love him as much as I do.

Oh my gosh look at that little face! How adorable, he kinda looks like my cousins hamster but with lighter colours. I can't get over how cute his face is. He looks like he has a really cute personality If he's from a pet shop he's most likely a hybrid hamster I'm not 100% sure though..
He's such a cutie, I hope you post more pictures soon!

Hello Percy

Congrats he's adorable!

Coming from a pet shop he will be a Russian hybrid (cross between the Winter white & Campbell's) they are prone to diabetes so it's best to avoid sugars & sweet foods (including fruit & the sweeter veg) so maybe try to find some new favourite foods for him, most love broccoli among other veg & treats like mealworms or the occasional monkey nut to get their teeth into!

Thank you for such a warm welcome everyone! Percy and I really appreciate it!

I'll be sure to post more photos of him if he wants to pose for more. My nickname for him is marshmallow as his coat looks a marshmallow just starting to toast.

Thank you for having a look at him as well! I didn't really consider he could be a Hybrid! I thought because of his lighter colour with brown rather than grey speckling he could be a WW but I suppose a hybrid would make sense! Thank you for your help.

Cypher, Thank you for the Diet advice! He mostly gets cucumber and rocket at the moment ( although he doesn't think much of the rocket, My Syrian loves it) with the occasional carrot. But I'll leave the carrot for the occasional treat and try the broccoli! Sorry to pick your brain but is there any other concerns with him being a Hybrid? I know hybrids animals can have a whole array of other health issues.

I like the pic of Percy in the bathtub. That's exactly where my Syrian is going tonight. Did he like it in the bath tub?
