I prefer not to use flash if I can avoid it but sometimes I do & it doesn't seem to bother them really.
It sounds as though bonding is coming on well, it may just be that the camera & picking him up was a bit too much in one go but he's probably forgotten it & will continue to get more confident.

Thanks for your reply. Just so your aware that I wasn't holding him at the time of the flash. He just put his front paws on a log & looked up at me for the first time & I didn't know what was happening & snapped a photo. He is letting me lift him a bit. No cage aggression at all anymore. We are bonding well. When he hears me up & about during the day, mostly thru late morning & early evenings he comes out to see what's going on. A big change from the first 17 days that I had him when he hid underneath the bedding. I left him alone until he stopped hiding, on the 17th day.

He bites me in his bin and in the taming bin, just all the sudden? He does drink a lot for a little hammie so I am worried about diabetes but I tested him recently with Keto-Diastix and he turned out negative for high levels of glucose, but it was just one reading.

If this just started with the new wheel I would wonder if it isn't him being territorial of his new possession? If it continues may want to have a Vet look at him as sudden change in temperament could be an indication of him having pain and no way but biting you to alert you that something hurts(If he has been running in the new wheel a lot it may be his muscles are aching from over doing it). Is he peeing a lot more or just drinking more? Wheel running will work up a thirst.

He does run in the wheel for 3-4 hours at a time, but not tonight. He probably is sore, never thought of that. He is territorial too because today I had to move his cage and a hidey house fell over that I had to put back into place and Koala didn't like that one bit. He has always drank the same amount of water ever since I adopted him at 10-12 weeks old, he has grown now but still drinks the same amount of water. I haven't checked his water levels since I put the new wheel in will have to do that tomorrow. That is if he runs on it as much as when I first put it in his cage? I'm sure he's sore, good point! Territorial too for sure! He has let me hold him in his cage before but not after the new wheel.

If they start biting when you put something new in the cage it can be because they really like it & get a bit territorial over it but it can also be when they don't like something, I'd give him a while to get used to having it & if doesn't improve maybe just try the old wheel again to see if that makes a difference.
If he was drinking too much you would really notice it, apart from checking water levels with something like diabetes or kidney problems they drink really frequently so he's probably just a bit thirsty.

I agree the biting has something to do with protecting his new wheel probably. He was running in it again at 8 am & he's never up at that time. So I think he really likes it vs not liking it?

It would be mean for me to take it away from him, especially as the wheel cost me money..

Hopefully the biting will stop in time, if not I'll just have to accept that about him I imagine?

I didn't mean to be in any hurry to just take it off him but it might be something to try if the biting doesn't stop, it does sound as though he likes rather than doesn't I agree, so it may just take time for him to realise that you aren't going to steal it!
Hopefully you won't have to get used to biting, it should stop as long as you're careful how you approach him.

Yea, I hope he realizes it soon! It's the perfect gift for him as he loves to run hard, out of all of them...

I hope I won't have to get used to biting either! I guess I'm used to bitey hamsters cause of my WW, I think they almost all are bitey except my robo. Cinnamon won't let me pick him up. I've almost given up?
