Re: Koala Bear
I think I should let people know that the only reason I had Koala PTS was when I was cleaning his cage without gloves. A mite bit me & it stung & was painful for a few minutes. I can't imagine how much pain Koala was in. If I didn't get bit I probably wouldn't have had him PTS. So I did this out of love as it was clear that the ivomectin wasn't effective at all. I tried for almost a month. He was also on anti-biotics for 10 dayd, 2 times per day. I really miss him. Cinnamon was at the end of his life with diabetes. His body looked horrible & I felt he was also suffering more than having any quality of life. I just want you to know why I did this if anybody doesn't understand.

Re: Koala Bear
You don't have to explain yourself, anyone following this thread will know how much you loved Koala, you didn't rush into the decision of putting koala to sleep, you did everything you could along with the vet to help him. You made the right decision xxx

Re: Koala Bear
Thanks Lizzy, just wanted to let people know why. I'm still heartbroken over both the bears.

Re: Koala Bear
I still can't seem to move his syringes off the kitchen counter. I just looked at those keto-diastix strips & thankfully I won't need them anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do with them? Eventually I'll pack them away, syringes too. But not yet, I like to see them where they are in the cupboard. I should do something about these reminders soon.

Re: Koala Bear
Some of you might remember Koala Bear who I had to PTS. I had 3 syringes that I was feeding him medicine with. They were all on my kitchen table. Just today I put them away in my hamster supplies. So it's taken me this long to let him go. Want to cry just typing this

Re: Koala Bear
Aww hun. it is totally understandable that you still feel sad about your beloved Koala Bear. I am sure you will have many lovely memories of him and will often remember him with both sadness and smiles.

Re: Koala Bear
Grief affects us all in different ways CB, I'm glad you shared that with us. Totally understandable you still feeling upset but you made the right decision of having Koala Bear put to sleep. It's such a hard decision to make and I know I and others have gone through feeling guilty but realising that we made that decision out of love. I still have a couple of things of Twinkle's that I like to sniff, her year anniversary is next month and I still find it hard.
Big Hugs XXXX

Re: Koala Bear
Thanks FF and Lizzy for empathizing with me. I can't believe that I let those syringes sit there for months. But that's what I did. Sorry for the loss of Twinkle and having things that you can remember him by.
FF I know you lost Woodstock not too long ago. It's so heartbreaking sometimes, especially when your real bonded with the hamster. If a hamster has your heart then it's going to be hard when they aren't here anymore.
