Re: Cinnamon Bear
Cinnamon would probably run more...happy, happy! My money not so happy! Coffee shops add up, maybe give up coffee shops for a month & pay off the wheel. Just a thought?

Re: Cinnamon Bear
I like how the Silent Runner doesn't have an axle. Rose, my WW, lost her footing and almost got her back caught up against the axle. Not a problem for Latte as she's so small, but I think that Rose was tired when she did that so she wasn't running normally?
She didn't hurt herself, to the point where I'd take it away from her though.

Re: Cinnamon Bear
I have some lazy hamsters, Koala & Latte are up usually before I go to sleep. I've been up since 4am this morning and Latte is the only one up.
The other 3? Guess they like to sleep? (mostly Cinnamon & Rose)

Re: Cinnamon Bear
I bought the wheel for $25.05 including shipping
I got 10% off by typing in YUMMIE in the promotion code. Exotic nutrition has that offer right now! I figure that I'll get the wheel before the prices go up! I got the Silent Runner wheel

My robo & WW both have Wodent Wheels but if I get him a wheel it would be a 9 in Silent Runner cause he is a pretty big guy for a dwarf. Plus he likes to nest under his wheel which might make a Wodent Wheel unsteady.
Or am I getting carried away with wheels? (of course I am!)

Some are a bit lazy, the new wheel would be great but may not encourage more running, I can understand your thinking & being a bit of a wheel fanatic myself lol! think it would be great for him but there may be other ways to encourage him to get more exercise.
Try scatter feeding just hide the food around the cage, scatter some on the substrate, hide it in cardboard tubes, egg boxes or anywhere he has to work to find it!
It encourages natural behaviour & exercise & it's fun for them!
Just generally make the cage as interesting & fun as possible so he has lots to do & if you can give some nice deep substrate, digging is good exercise too!
He doesn't look particularly fat but being such fluff balls is can be hard to tell, do you know what he weighs?

Re: Cinnamon Bear
No, I don't have a hammie scale, actually never weighed a hamster myself. I saw the vet do it tho on a Syrian. He's only in a 20 gal long tank but he does like to dig. He has foam chew toys he plays with but as far as exercise goes, the wheel is the best way for him. I did order the Silent Runner with hopes that he might find it more interesting? He does run & he should like this better than the Silent Spinner. If all goes well it might work? If not, at least I tried? He's not that overweight but he could get a little more ambitious unless he's just real nocturnal which is probably the case? His Silent Spinner definitely seems like it's being used regularly.

Re: Cinnamon Bear
Hammie scale lol! Kitchen scale?
It's not a bad idea to weigh them regularly anyway if you can, sometimes it can be the first indication of health problems.
Just make the most of the space he has, much as they do love their wheels there's so much more to life than that!
With a tank you have the advantage of being able to use lots of substrate so I'd give him as much as you can.
What are foam chew toys?
