She is gone.

I called the nearest vet office right after they started working. She was still breathing when I put her in the carrier. Ten minutes later I was at the vet and I've waited another ten for the doctor to come. But as soon as the doctor opened the carrier I knew she was gone. She was already becoming stiff.

Now I have her ashes right next to her empty cage. I am incredibly sad. She moved into another country with me. I wish I could take more friends with me, but she was the only one. Reminder of home and a very nice, quirky hamster.

I feel guilty and scared. I imagine her night was horrible, maybe I should have taken her to the emergency vet during the night to help her pass. But as she was eating I was kind of hoping ... I know people and animals can recover from a stroke but I guess it was her time.

I think no matter what you do, when they leave you, you always feel guilty. Even if you have given them a good life.

I'm sorry my dear Scoop for the last couple of days. I will miss you.

I'm so sorry, it's always so hard when they go but she lived a good life to a great age, try to focus on that & cherish the memories, it's always easy to overthink things in hindsight but don't feel guilty or scared, you did your very best for her & she's at peace now.

Thank you Cypher and CMB.
The apartment feels so empty and quiet. I didn't even realize, how used I am to her little routines, drinking the water in the morning, checking if anything great is in her bowl, nibbling on her wood&toys. Last night we were watching a movie and she usually came out of her house at that time. Then she ran on her bike and I let her run around or play in her pen. And yesterday all there was, was the movie.

I keep hoping she had a good life. And that she felt safe and good with us. I guess that's all we can give them.

I'm sure she did have a good life with you.
It does take time to come to terms with the loss of a much loved hamster, I know the emptiness can be hard to take especially at first but it will get easier & the happy memories will outweigh the grief.
