Re: My sweetie
I gave her the medicine on Friday. Three days, going strong. I have to apply one more drop after 3 weeks and then we will see. If anything new grows and gets big, I should come back before that (of course).
Obviously I'm at fault and I didn't understand the vet the first time, so I called one more time. My knowledge of German words doesn't really extend to hamster health conditions. My English is not great, but at least I can understand most of it. They did their best trying to explain it one more time and this time I wrote a bunch of words down and kept asking questions. I will be more prepared the next time I have a conversation with them.
So: It definitely wasn't a tumor, which was my biggest concern. And it wasn't a wart either. And I got that bacteria thing wrong as well. No bacteria. It was just a general tissue thickening and that (supposedly) can happen from mites.
Anyway ... Everything is wonderful. I know of cats&dogs that got a bit strung out from this kind of medicine, but she is doing great. Only time will tell. I hope I gave her a couple of months, rather than taking them. I don't like not trusting vets, doctors. They have the knowledge, tests, experience. What do I have? Internet full of information about things going bad. I'm still concerned about long term effects on liver and other organs. But I know I would also feel bad, if I didn't gave her the recommended medicine.
It doesn't make sense to take her to another vet now. If she were a dog, I would take her to another vet for another general check-up (check the blood, urine, feces). But since she is not, and there is only so much that they can check, I will just keep a close eye on her, as always.

Re: My sweetie
Hello all, my snowball will celebrate her second birthday in a couple of weeks. She was born in mid/late November, so let's just say it's 22. 11 . If I made her a couple of days younger, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. That's almost a year in human years anyway . I got a carrot cake in mind. Although I think she would appreciate banana cake more .
I'm so happy she is doing ok. With her usual quirks that is. My hubby says she is also suffering from pms, because on some days she just wants to stay inside, have nothing to do with us and eat her version of chocolate (meal worms). Looking back a couple of months, I'm very happy she is doing ok now. I doubt flea treatment had anything to do with it to be honest. But in any case we went through that rough patch and are great now .
I think time change messed her up as well, her schedule of ideal play time has changed a bit and I'm still trying to figure out when she is most active. I got her a new wooden house to play in and I can't wait to give it a try. Photobucket obviously changed some rules, but I might make a video and put it on youtube. I need sunflower seeds. She hasn't had them for a while, so it will be a real treat.

Nice to hear she is doing ok. Hopefully you will find the best time for her playtime etc and that she likes the new house.

Re: My sweetie
I'm glad that she is doing well. Happy early 2nd birthday, cutie!!! I hope that you can establish when her perfect playtime is and you both have plenty of fun. I'm sure she will love her carrot or banana cake; both sound like an absolute ham's delight. I hope she enjoys her wooden house and her sunflower seeds treat. I look forward to seeing the video whenever you have the chance.

Re: My sweetie
Please help!
She is definitely not ok. She's been less social for about a week now. But yesterday she spent a lot of time outside of her house, shaking, barely moving, walking wobbly, her eyes were half closed. She did eat a little bit but I didn't see her drink. Today she is refusing to drink and didn't eat her favorite food. I wanted to held her but I think she used her last bit of strength to protest quietly and moving away from me. Her bottom is dry, eyes&nose are clear.
It's freezing outside. If she is sick I'm afraid cold&stress could kill her.
I've googled a lot and still don't know: How can I tell if she is in pain?!! I just don't want her to suffer.
Edit: Am I crazy for not calling a vet already? I can't imagine taking her on a bus and to the vet at this point.

Re: My sweetie
I'm really sorry to hear this, it's hard to say for sure but it does sound as though it may just be old age catching up with her now & from your description she could possibly have had a stroke which isn't uncommon.
I'm not sure that the vet would be able to do anything now other than give pain killers if she needs them & it can be hard to tell sometimes if they are in pain or not.
I'd just keep her quiet & warm for a while & see how she goes, if she appears to be worse or shows any signs of being in pain then it would be better to take her to the vet.
