Default Help! Strange wound looking thing

Hey,

I've noticed a scab/wound looking thing on my dwarfs stomach. Seems too far up to be his private parts, and it seems like a hole that's healed over with a yellowish crusty scab. I've bathed it to try and clean it but I have no idea what it is and I'm getting worried!!! Any advice or ideas welcome, thank you

Are you sure it isn't his scent gland .They are located about half way up their bellies, and do get a dried yellowish substance that looks like a scab on them.

Yep, sounds like the scent gland. You can clean it with some cooled saline solution. If it's infected you'll want to see a vet but if not then you'll just need to keep checking it and keeping it clean if he's not doing the job himself

Definitely the scent gland. It can be incredibly dangerous if they get infected, so do go and see a vet if it doesn't go away quickly. xx

It is usually the scent gland like the others have said. On the little guys the scent gland is on the stomach, not on the hips like the Syrians. It can look kind of icky, especially with a light colored dwarfie. My hams usually clean it themselves, but if you do it, it should clean up fairly easily. If you still feel it isn't clearing up have a vet check it out.

The scab is a sign of it healing.
But if the scab comes off and it looks infected then don't hesitate to see a vet.
If in doubt get it checked out!

It's not actually a scab and you do want it come off, just don't pull at it! Wipe it gently with saline to try to dissolve it. It's just build-up of the oils secreted by the scent gland
