Cement Decor?
I have made backgrounds and general decor for my fish tanks using cement. This got me wondering- could this be used in a hamster enclosure?
I imagine if it was used in a way to create some sort of cliff-inspired shelf or climbing area would be good at filing their claws down. The texture would also likely be a neat addition. The only possible danger I can think of is that they may chew on it and swallow bits of rock- which is obviously not good. They could also possibly chip a tooth if they were determined to chew it as well.

Re: Cement Decor?
Hmm, cement can be brittle and its heavy. Not something i'd use in a hamster's enclosure.
You could try your creative hands at woodwork, find a block of hamstersafe wood and carve out an interesting background object.

Re: Cement Decor?
I think papier mache would be better, lighter and safer if chewed.

Re: Cement Decor?
I agree it most likely wouldn’t be safe, some of the things that go into cement may be harmful & chipped teeth or other injuries could well be a possibility.

Re: Cement Decor?
Oh I definitely have other methods of making things. Pretty much everything I own I've made myself out of wood or tissue or paper, etc. I was just wanting to make a platform that would help keep nails filed that wasn't something like a terracotta pot. I already use large flat rocks but was hoping to make a more natural looking cliff. Thanks for your input!
