Default Aquamate Sealant on wood

Hello,

I have a little wooden house I would like to glue together, would aquamate sealant work on wood?

Would it stay stuck together if I used so nails as well to stabilise it?

Thank you!

I have no idea what that is but I doubt a sealant would be safe for hamsters, I don't know which country you're in so can't really recommend the best glue where you are but PVA glue is ok to use, don't use nails as they would be dangerous if your hamster chewed through the wood which may happen.
A wooden house also needs to be coated with something safe to pee proof it, here we use Plastikote water based enamel paint.

It's a fish safe sealant that I have read is suitable for hamsters, people use it to seal off the edges of the IKEA detolf and other DIY cages.

I am in the UK, would PVA stick larger chunks of wood together? I am not sure it would hold sadly.

Unfortunately I can't get hold of any plastikote here, it has been out of stock everywhere I have looked for ages and my last lot has run out, so if you know anywhere that has it in stock that would be great haha

Aquarium sealant is used to glue glass sheets together to make aquariums although with wood unsure how strong the bond would be. I wouldn’t reinforce anything for hamsters with nails/screws just incase they chew on them.

PVA is in fact a wood glue - it best to use clamps to hold the wood in place when drying to keep pressure on the sides as can take up to 24hrs for the glue to fully cure and to be at it strongest. Glueing two flush pieces of wood together isn’t the strongest option - instead of nails I drill a hole to provide a snug fit for a piece of wooden dowel (wooden sewers work well for this) and with a bit of glue strengthens the joint.

Where have you tried to get plastikote from? As Wickes and also The Range sells Plastikote only in-store - they are both still open locally to me.

I used this on my DIY cage. I used it to seal the wood along the edges so nothing could leak in or out. It isn't strong enough to hold wood together. But as the name suggests, I'd only use it so seal edges and corners.

ahh okay, thank you!

I have online tried online on wickes and amazon and other DIY shops but none have it. I havent been able to get to the shops recently so couldn't go to wickes but I'll try there when I can find a way to get there. Thanks for your help!
